all if it is a good deal...though I was talking about shutdown seanie.
read like Shultz I would move asap if there is a deal to be made. he isn't a key cog going forward . - rinaldo
Yeah, I've soured on Read. I know he's a good 2-way player and that line has been good the last 6-7 games, but he hasn't looked as fast as year's past and, honestly, there needs to be more production for his salary. |

My point is that we might not have seen ghost if streit wasn't out long term. I think hextall is against bringing a guy up for a game or two - YuenglingJagr
Exactly. And all I have been saying is when the opportunity arises, like due to injury, we shouldn't fear giving a guy a shot for a game or two, just like we did with Ghost.
And if Ghost didn't play well, he would have only been here for a game or two. |

I disagree and that was the point I was making. Ghost would not have been called up if it was a 2 game tryout. |

I have always liked read. though now you need to cut bait before you cant cut bait...all this assumes there is a market for him. |

If Gudas wasn't a flyer, he wouldn't be having a hearing. The player was eligible to be hit, put himself in a crouched/ vulnerable position and Gudas didn't extend his elbow through the hit. But, since he plays for the flyers 2-3 games. Horsepoop! |

Really the biggest question is what's going to happen when Streit is ready to play again? Moves will have to be made to bring him back.
- MJL
Would banishing Manning, McDonald, and VdV to the AHL be enough?
In reply to Jmatchet these three together are under $2 million . That is why AMac is in the minors to start with they only have to claim 950,000 of his 5 mill salary . When everyone is healthy they don't even have room for Ghost. That is why they keep a guy like Manning his cap at 625.000 is low . Hence that is why Ghost didn't get called up earlier, even Morin on entry level is too high unless we have guys on I.R. |

But how would they think he's ready? The only way he's going to get NHL ready is by improving, but you don't want to call him up and let him keep improving at the AHL level. Not trying to argue, but it seems like a Catch-22; he can't get ready until he improves, but you don't want to call him up if he's improving. - jmatchett383
Teams have a pretty good idea when a player is ready to make that jump. Morin is in his first professional season. He hasn't played that many games, if he's making strides, let him continue to do so. Same with Straka, he's finally seeming to break through, don't rush him to the big team, let him continue to build for a while.

Not one person on this thread has ever advocated calling up a prospect if they think he's not ready. Now that would be dumb. Morin, imo, has shown enough progress this season that he could easily handle a limited call up if needed. Most people who watch him think he could earn a long term promotion by the end of the year (post trade deadline) and most likely will be ready to handle full time duty by next season if he continues to progress at the steady level he's shown.
If we suffered massive injuries or made a trade or two I think he could step in and play now and acquit himself quite well but there's simply no reason for that. He's better off right now in Lehigh Valley. It's just my opinion from watching him play. - mayorofangrytown
That's not true, on this very thread there are people posting call a player up to give him a look, to see where he's at. To give him a taste of what he has to do to make it. We don't want a player just to handle a call up. Manning is handling it. We want the player to thrive like Gostisbehere is. Nothing wrong with overcooking a little in the minors.

Would you have said Ghost was ready before they called him up? I don't think he was blowing anyone away in the AHL, but look at him now in the NHL. - funmaster18
I pretty much know that Gostisbehere was ready to play in the NHL on the PP, and that his puck skills and skating was NHL caliber. The question was how recovered was he from the injury, and could he handle the physical and defensive side. Those are the questions I had about him.

Might want to look at the replay again. Zbanajed was in position to shoot with his stick on the ice, before the puck was even dropped. He did not change his position right before the hit. Gudas raised his elbow/forearm, and raised up into the hit to the point where the head was the principal point of contact. It's a bad hit, and he deserves the suspension. Nothing to do with who he plays for.
