I'd like to see them do the same with Straka and Morin. Giving each of them a few games in the NHL is not going to hurt them in any way whatsoever. - BiggE
Morin is apparently having some struggles acclimating to the AHL. That's not surprising. He's (likely) used to being able to rely solely on his physical edge against the average 17/18/19 year old to dominate. Now, he's going up against full-grown men and he'll have to learn to still utilize his size, but to incorporate other factors into his game as well. Throwing him into the NHL after 20 games or so of AHL experience may not be wise. I think there's a better chance we see him later in the year. |

Calling someone up in the event of injury and if they can contribute is perfectly reasonable.
Calling someone up for the sake of calling someone up (regardless of their play) seems like a waste of time. - johndewar
I agree with that. Wait for a need for a call up, but then bring up a guy who will be part of your future, so long as they are playing well enough in the AHL. If a guy is a mess down there, they shouldn't call him up just to see what he can do. But if he is playing well, why not get a look when there is a spot open? Sorry to Vinnie, but you're toast and not part of the future, so I don't need to see him in the lineup when there's an injury. |

If he's struggling, then might as well wait until he finds his game. On the other hand, a change of scenery and competition for a game or two might help a guy who is struggling. I could go either way, the more I think about it. |

I believe I said back in October that it would be worth calling up Ghost to replace Manning, not because Ghost would necessarily be any better defensively, but because of the offensive spark he would provide.
As it turned out Streit got hurt and Ghost came up that way.
When Streit comes back I'd like to see him play on the second pairing with Medvedev, who is a swift skater. They may have to move LSchenn to make that happen, but that should be quite possible in January. - Feanor
If possible, I'd prefer to hold onto Schenn until at least the TDL and move Schultz, if that creates enough space. I feel that the change in return for Schultz between January and the TDL is not as significant as it would be for Schenn. But hard minutes etc. |

Whether you like Crosby or not, the fact that Dubinsky only got one game for cross-checking the back on Crosby's neck and then breaking his stick over Crosby when he was on the ice sets a precedent that, unless you're Raffi Torres or Zac Rinaldo, you can do whatever you want and get, at max, 1-2 games. I see a $2500 fine coming. - jmatchett383
I don't like crosby but if dubinsky did that to say, Couturier I'd be livid. so yea he deserved a much bigger penalty. That kinda stuff has one intention and that's injury. |

If you were talking about a guy like Cousins/Straka struggling, that's one thing because they have multiple AHL seasons. We're talking about a 20-year-old playing his first handful of professional games, so I don't think it's a "change of scenery" so much as adjusting to the pro game. |

If Gudas is suspended I'd love to see Ghost with MDZ. Though, I would assume Schenn gets paired with him. - TobyFlenderson
I think it will be
MDZ-Schultz
Medvedev-Schenn
Manning-Ghost
or
MDZ-Medvedev
Schultz-Schenn

Exactly. Sends a terrible message if you just bring guys up with no rhyme or reason.

If he's struggling to adjust to the AHL game the NHL game will chew him up and spit him out. I'd leave him where he is for a good while. |

Were I Mario Lemieux, or more likely Jim Rutherford, I would have made an announcement along these lines:
"With respect to the NHL DPS ruling on Brandon Dubinsky's cowardly cross checks to Sidney Crosby, we are now aware of the off-ice punishment for cross-checking someone in the neck and proceeding to viciously cross-check them as they lay prone on the ice. We would expect the same punishment to be applied to all players, both victim and offender, regardless of any perceived star status. I look forward to our next game with the Columbus Blue Jackets, specifically Ryan Johansen, Ryan Murray, and Nick Foligno. The Penguins will have no further comment of the matter." |

Schenn should be easier to trade than Schultz, but I'd be fine with moving either of them this season. |

Yeah, probably the best bet. It would be different if it's a guy who is an established AHL player that is struggling or if it's a a young player just getting a taste for the first time. |

Yeah, to have any value, he's gotta be able to play great D, and he hasn't made that transition yet. He's in that Luke Schenn situation -- even though he's physically up to the task, it's better to give him (ample) time to develop between the ears first. |

There is a big difference in doing this for 10 games versus doing this for 82 games. I dont think there is anything wrong with how they handled it, but the games are much more fun to watch now |

Agreed, but like I said, I'd like to try to maximize Schenn's value, which would likely be at the TDL. |
