"The Flyers didn't execute well. And made a lot of individual mistakes. Those things can be cleaned up. My point was simply this. I feel that Laviolette made adjustments needed in systems play coming into the Season. He deserves credit for that. They obviously weren't sharp yet in executing new breakout schemes, as evidenced by the Schenn turnover leading to a goal last night.
In my opinion, what got Laviolette fired, was the team's lack of heart, work ethic, and competitiveness, that is evident in the last 2 games. To a disturbing level. Why that is, I can't explain. Espeically 3 games into a new Season. No excuse for it from the players. Maybe they tuned him out, I don't know. I can't explain it."
Yep. That's the talk of someone who clearly wanted Laviolette fired.

I remember Detroit was very eager to sign him. A couple of the beat guys from Detroit called Weiss the second choice.
Of course that said, Ray Ferraro said soon after Vinny signed in Philly that he'd be the first guy bought out twice. - Jsaquella
If Vinny refuses to retire, Ray is gonna be right. They may not buy him out after this season, but by June of 2017, if he still won't quit, a buyout is almost a certainty. |

When does he stop blaming others and realize that its his inability to skate at the NHL level what is keeping in the pressbox? - BiggE
Good question. I hope soon! |

I posted extensively on the fact that Laviolette was unwilling to adjust his system and style of play, and that they didn't have the players to play that way. - MJL

If John Scott is going to get voted into the all star game we need to get off our asses and get AMac or Vinny there. |

See the thing is, I think his agent asked around and tried to find him a guaranteed deal this past summer and found no interest. Maybe a couple PTO offers, or similar, but nobody willing to guarantee him $1.5mm for a year.
I really think, if he had found one team willing to do so, he would have mutually terminated his deal after getting the bonus and left. If he had any offers out there, I think he would jump at it faster than I would for free beer at a BarBQ.
That's why I'm not sure he'll retire or agree to terminate this summer. If he can't find a job and really wants to play, why not get paid? |

You're dead wrong. I made umpteen posts calling for Laviolette's firing during the previous season. Feel free to do some complete research. You'll notice in that post it references the changes that Laviolette tried to make in the beginning of the next season. Too little too late. Hockey is fluid and things change from one season to the next. There are plenty of people here who can confirm, and already have, that I repeatedly called for the Lavilolette to be fired. |

If his #1 desire is to play, he should look to sign an AHL deal, assuming he wants to stay in North America. |

Just when the King of "I know I'm right" clearly contradicts himself but refuses to admit it.
"Lavi wasn't going to adjust his system"
"Lavi clearly adjusted his system"
"No, I never contadicted myself."
His unwillingness to ever admit any mistake or misspeak on his own behalf is infuriating. I wonder what it must be like to be that flawless and intelligent. |

I'd go to him at the end of the regular season and say, Vinny, I want a promise that you will either retire or agree to a mutual termination on July 2nd, after your bonus is paid, or we will buy you out in June.
The cap penalties that result suck, but are not bad enough to give me pause. I know it's possible to carry Vinny another season, but I'd rather have the roster spot open to allow a call up from the Phantoms in case of short term injury or just to see a kid play.
I want to avoid having to make a choice to expose a guy to waivers or having to make a trade to keep an impressive rookie on the roster, even if it means some dead cap space. |

Hmm, I remember it being a bit more even than that. It doesn't matter, though. On a related note, one criticism of Lavi I recall was burying Couts in defensive situations. Two coaches since then haven't changed much, but I guess there's not much choice in the matter. - BulliesPhan87
I dunno, still feel like that he wasn't the problem. |

I think his desire is to play in the NHL with a guaranteed deal. I don't blame him. I wouldn't sign a PTO if I was him. I don't think he signed here expecting to suck, so I don't blame him. Just have to figure the best way for the team to fix the situation. |

Then let him rot. He really isn't hurting the Flyers if you think about it.
The Flyers need high end players not supporting players. At this point under the hard cap they can only be had in the draft as very few good young players are moved anymore. So having that extra money means isn't going to get them a top notch 2nd line center or a stud defenseman in their prime. It would be more overpriced vets with his cap money anyway. So let him rot for two more years. |

I understand that. But I think that he realizes at this point that won't happen here. So if his #1 desire is to play, might as well go play in the AHL/Europe (if that's an option he wants to pursue) and hope you catch the eye of an NHL team. |
