They let them fight, they should make them take helmets off first. - Scoob
Well remember, not all fights have players who square off. When 2 players just lock up immediately, they don't want to take the time to unbuckle, they want to punch the other player in the face immediately.

Agreed. I like Laviolette, but there were just some elements I didn't like - Jsaquella
The NHL coaching fraternity is like a handful of guys doing their own thing/innovating, and then 25 other copycats. No matter what anybody says about him, at least Lavi was one of the former.
Depends on where the organization wanted to go. It seemed the players they were bringing in were more on pace with a defensive-first mindset. Laviolette will never coach that way, and rightfully so. - flyer_nutter
I am a big fan of the way Laviolette coaches and it is very entertaining to be a fan of his teams...but I do believe his coaching style has an expiration date with his players. Eventually when they stop responding he needs to go. If he was a woman, he would be on the upper right of the hot crazy scale
I wanted him gone, freely admit it, don't feel bad that he was fired.
I don't think he's a bad coach, but I didn't care for a lot of things he did. I hate how he handled goalies, I disliked that he was very inflexible-something Ilya Bryzgalov spoke about during the puck talks event in Philly a few weeks back-and I felt like the team had tuned him out. In games against certain teams, it seemed there were no strategical adjustments-teams like the Rangers & Devils ate the Flyers up consistently, and they never really adjusted to what those teams did.
He's had great success in the NHL and I actually enjoy watching his system when it's firing on all cylinders. But he needs the horses to run it, and he's shown an unwillingness to make changes to better suit his players. I wanted a coach who was more adaptable, more willing to bend. - Jsaquella

Dude was wearing a face shield. Broken and cut hand.
Just when the King of "I know I'm right" clearly contradicts himself but refuses to admit it.
"Lavi wasn't going to adjust his system"
"Lavi clearly adjusted his system"
"No, I never contadicted myself."
His unwillingness to ever admit any mistake or misspeak on his own behalf is infuriating. I wonder what it must be like to be that flawless and intelligent. - jmatchett383
If we ever meet somewhere , your drinks are on me!
Yep. Because you contradicted yourself. And you're full of poop.
I AM MJL, I AM NEVER EVER WRONG! - jmatchett383
There is no contradiction. In calling for Laviolette's firing, I was giving my reasoning for why I think he should've been fired the previous season. In the post you dragged up, I was giving my opinion on why, even after he made changes, why I think Holmgren decided to fire him. Two completely different things, from two different seasons, months apart.
Very true. In Goulbourne's case he was already playing a defensive forward role and killing penalties. He does hit and he's a fast skater, so in that respect he's like Rinaldo, but he was never really a guy that had a rep as a loose cannon, running around and hitting people and being reckless.
He never had a year where he had more suspensions than points. - Jsaquella
I personally love his attitude. he seems like one of those kids who will not be denied. just someone you root for.
10 points for his role on the team isn't bad for a rookie at all. any idea who is on his line?
