But they can't do that, because that means they'll have dead space for 6 years which will prohibit them from being good, or something. - jmatchett383
Detroit are stuck with a $1,666,666 cap penalty in 18-19, 19-20 and 20-21. But in the meantime they are able to fill out their roster with better players.
A Vinny buyout this summer would only leave the Flyers with a $916,666 penalty in 18-19 and 19-20.
You have a poor memory on that. I was one at the forefront calling for his firing. I posted extensively on the fact that Laviolette was unwilling to adjust his system and style of play, and that they didn't have the players to play that way. I posted extensively detailing how his overaggressive press forecheck along with aggressive pinching by defenseman, was causing the team all kinds of defensive issues. - MJL
I believe you. I know you were against the Stevens firing and there seems to be a new coach every other season so I apologize for confusing it.

That is correct, I did not feel that Stevens deserved to be fired, at the time. In complete hindsight, hiring Laviolette worked out that season, because I have doubts if Stevens would've led them to the Cup finals.

If Ghost keeps this up the Flyers should be in great shape capwise next year providing they unload Streit beforehand. They can bury Umberger and AMac in the minors next year while keeping Vinny a scratch or hope he retires (looks slim now).
Ghost should keep this up and if he does its bye bye Streit. Provorov should be a Flyer next year also. I'd doubt an extra year of juniors is going to do anything for him. Room needs to be made.
Depending on how he plays the next couple months, and what it would cost, I might try and re-sign Medvedev. I'd then look to move Schultz and if there are no takers, keep him as the 7th man.

Provorov-Medvedev
Morin-Ghost
1 of Schultz/Manning/Alt as the 7th man
I think Alt and/or Hagg will get to the NHL before Morin - YuenglingJagr
Probably, at least Alt who I think will get some time this season. But from all reports, Morin has been steadily improving and playing pretty well. I think he has a very good chance of starting next season with the big club.

I will happily be wrong...but I suspect that the Flyers will not start next season with 2 rookie defensemen in their lineup
