Ghost has definitely added a fun element that was missing.

I noticed the dumping the puck as well and it drove me nuts. It happens much less now

- YuenglingJagr

With ghost and med in it looks like they are forcing more dump ins as a team. Its been an adventure at times when the other team has the puck in our end but med and ghost generally are quick enough to stay between the net and puck carrier.

Also the coots line isn't just scoring but they are getting much higher quality scoring chances of late. Somerthing shook loose there and I'm not sure what that can be attributed to.

Any logical hockey fan can see he is better than good or know that it takes more than 1 player to win a playoff series or even get in the playoffs.

Somehow thinking Giroux is part of the reason they didnt make the playoffs or win series when he is a PPG player in the playoffs and leads or in the case of last year was second on the team in scoring is insane to me.

Thank you for saving me the time in typing that out

I'm not going to wade in and tell you your opinion is wrong but what you're saying here is true of every elite player in the NHL. They manage to over come the match ups, they find a way to put up dominate performances even in the playoffs against the best of teams.

I do find that to be Giroux's weakness. I don't think it's something he can't do but it's certainly something he doesn't do on any kind of a consistent basis.

And I love the player. If he was on another team though and was never a Flyer I wouldn't pay to see him as a fan. Of course I won't pay to see this team right now and feel bad for the people who are and can't enjoy it.

What elite player are you talking about? Stamkos? Crosby? Ovechkin? Giroux is one of the most fun players to watch in the NHL and I don't say that with bias. I am a flyers fan but I'm also a hockey fan and Giroux is definitely one of the more exciting players. Would he dominate more if he was the size of benn or as fast as seguin? Sure

Not to mention the fact that I'm not gonna run the numbers because I can't believe people don't know this, but every single elite player in the NHL gets fat off PP points. Every single one, throughout the history of the sport

Could Giroux score more at ES? Sure. If people want to throw darts at a board, they can pretend that he is so deficient in that area that you can bust him on it

But I look at who this dude plays with, more often than not, and it's comical.

The last time the dude had two scoring wingers, he was a Hart Trophy candidate. The last time he had a winger who was actually scoring points, last season, he was a top-15 scorer in a league where scoring was universally down. Still was near PPG

But hey, whatever. More ES goals when Michael Raffl has three points all season is the least we can expect, amirite

Every star player typically produces more against weaker competition, and I'd like to see some stats to back up your claim anyway.

Holmgren missed out on Weber, he made up for it by landing Suter.
- PLindbergh31

He actually missed out on Suter first and made up for it by signing Weber

But how many of those 61 points were scored with "heart"? Very few imo. Points without heart and leadership mean nothing. We don't want to admit it but Giroux is a slightly better Sam Gagner. Those are just the facts.

forgive me church of flyerdom, the team is loaded with allstars, not one player not named umberger, lecavalier or schultz is worthy of criticism! no these players are just amazing it's simply amazing a mystery bigger than the creation of the universe asto how they can't even get into the playoffs... the game must be rigged! How dare i think to criticize anyone on this team!

Actually, it's mainly Giroux and maybe a couple of others who we're okay with.

He had 6 points in 7 games against the Rags. They were a much better team that year. Went to the Cup. So did the Devils in the other year. The entire team was ass against the Devils. He still put up 3 points in 4 games, with two dangling broken wrists. I don't see what's hard to get: it's harder to score when your team is overmatched. He still scored at about a ppg pace both series.

see that's the problem you take it like i have an axe to grind. I don't but i'm not gonna act like the guy is above all criticism. Personally No I don't see him as elite, very good but not elite in my book. Reason being he needs to be able to line up against and be able to beat anybody they send out there against him. He couldn't do it against new jersey a few years ago the playoffs and was stymied for most of the series against new york. Ok he played against girardi etc... but at some point you gotta beat the guys they send at you he can't.
- JoeRussomanno

Is Crosby elite? His playoff numbers the last 5 years are horrific. In games facing elimination, theyre nonexistant.

Ghost, Neuvirth for basically everyone here.

Personally, I'm not worried about Voracek at all and expect him to bounceback so for me he'd also be in that mix. I guess I'd qualify as a "Coots apologist" as well.
