Trading LSchenn (even with salary retained) or demoting Umberger or Gagner should be enough.

And Streit's still at least a month away from returning.

- Feanor

Technically the flyers would only need to retain 300-400k (didnt look up the actual number) to fit ghost. I would probaby prefer waiving Gagner if he isnt going to play.

I know that it's actually an area of strength at the NHL level right now (WHAT!?!?), but it would be nice to have some cheaper, younger guys who could contribute as Mason gets on in his career.
- jmatchett383

Agreed. Hopefully Stolarz can show he could be a backup to Mason or Neuvirth when it comes time to resign one of them. They will have more money to spend on goaltending then, but I think it should stay in the 5-7 million per year range

I think Red still holds the record for goals by an opponent in a single game against the Flyers. He had 6 in one game way back when.
- johndewar

Yup, he sure does. Not one of the Flyers better moments for sure. St. Louis really owned the Flyers back in the late 60s and early 70s, both on the scoreboard and physically. The smaller Flyers back then were absolutely terrorized by the Blues, especially by guys like Steve Durbano and the Plager brothers.

However, as Flyers fans, we all owe a debt of gratitude to the Blues. After watching his team get manhandled by St. Louis one too many times, Ed Snider swore that win or lose, his teams weren't going to get pushed around any more. A few years later it was our beloved Broad Street Bullies that were beating up on the rest of the NHL. Add to that the best one, two punch in the NHL up the middle in Clarke and Macleish and the league's best goalie in Bernie Parent and it led to back to back Stanley Cup championships.

And, as an added bonus, the Blues have NEVER won a Stanley Cup. So (frank) you Barclay Plager!!

And who knows it will take Gagner to return from his head injury. I think today will his 10th day not skating unless he shows up to practice.

I think that was a big part as to why they did sign Vinny. To kind of fill in for Jagr's spot, leadership wise.
- Streit2ThePoint

Also, look at all the complaints about needed more scoring and a 2nd line center. They took a shot, and it didn't work out. It happens.

I'd waive Umberger before Gagner. While they both pretty much suck, at least Gagner can generate some offense once in a while.

It's hard to question how Giroux is performing this season.

Provorov - Russia
Fazleev - Russia
Sanheim - Canada
Konecny - Canada
Lindblom - Sweden
Kase - Czech

Thought NAK shouldve at least been invited to camp, but his injury seemed to happen at an unfortunate time

- YuenglingJagr

Sandstrom is a longshot but could make the Swedish team.

Gagner is hurt, no? I'm guessing Cousins goes back to LHV when Gagner returns.

If he's healthy and put on waivers Gagner could possibly be claimed, which would alleviate any cap issues this season. So I'd waive him first.

And Umberger has generated as much offense as Gagner this season.

I actually liked how Umberger was playing this season before he went down. I want him to take as long as he needs and be fully healthy before coming back.

Correct. He got the Ron Duguay treatment.

It took me till December of Jagr's only year here to actually feel like Jagr was part of the Flyers and not some pretty boy floater.

Now, after getting to know what he was about, he's one of my favorite players in the league.

It was bad decision on many levels.

First, he only came here because he wanted to play for Laviolette. So of course, they fire Lavi 3 games into the season. If they had done the right thing, and fired Lavi after the end of the previous season, Vinny likely never even considers coming to the Flyers.

Second, they had 2 young centers in Couturier and Schenn already on the roster. They should have already been in rebuilding mode at that point and let the 2 of them compete to be the 2nd line center.

Finally, anyone who had watched VLC could see that by 2013 he was nowhere near the player that he was in his prime. Offering him a 5 year deal was just poor cap management and a bad decision all around. He should have been offered 3 years, 15 million max, and, if he choose to go elsewhere, so be it.

I waive umberger just to see if there are any dopes out there, there wont be.

if you can somehow trade RJ and eat the max amount of salary/cap hit you need to do it. highly doubtful though as well.

gagner had what 40 points last year on a bad phoenix team?

No one is trading for Umberger or Vinny or AMac. Gagner, OTOH, since he's in the last year of his deal could at least possibly be moved. If he comes back and just plays so-so, you might find a team with injuries, desperate to add offense, that might part with a mid round pick for him, especially if the Flyers retained the max amount allowable.

Thinking about it more I think there will probably have to be a trade unless someone else gets hurt and goes on LTIR or Gagner gets claimed, because while they could get under the cap and keep Ghost by waiving Gagner or Umberger, then they would have 8 D and 13 forwards and the 13th forward would be Vinny. Which would be bad.

Not only did the Flyers get the far inferior player in the Hartnell trade, they got a guy who can't stay on the ice. He was injured when Hextall traded for him, and he's been injured the entire time he's been with the Flyers. Really a brutal trade. The future cap space gained does not remotely offset the loss of production.
