forgive me church of flyerdom, the team is loaded with allstars, not one player not named umberger, lecavalier or schultz is worthy of criticism! no these players are just amazing it's simply amazing a mystery bigger than the creation of the universe asto how they can't even get into the playoffs... the game must be rigged! How dare i think to criticize anyone on this team!

He had 6 points in 7 games against the Rags. They were a much better team that year. Went to the Cup. So did the Devils in the other year. The entire team was ass against the Devils. He still put up 3 points in 4 games, with two dangling broken wrists. I don't see what's hard to get: it's harder to score when your team is overmatched. He still scored at about a ppg pace both series.
- Mononoke

he had two goals, which he didn't score until the 5th or 6th game I believe and 4 assists against the rangers, in a series like that he needed to do more.

and you know a majority of that he was basically a third liner... what happened against new jersey and new york? he got blanked.

Here are some facts for you Joe.

Playoff stats and time on ice.

09/10 playoffs. 18:44 TOI 3:26 PP TOI 21 pts in 23 games

10/11 playoffs 21:57 TOI 4:05 PPTOI 12 points in 11 games

11/12 playoffs 22:42 TOI 4:06 PPTOI 17 points in 10 games

So how was he basically a 3rd liner?

Is Crosby elite? His playoff numbers the last 5 years are horrific. In games facing elimination, theyre nonexistant.
- KINGKENZO

to answer your question? not anymore, at one point he was a d he also won a cup and LEAD his team to another finals.

My bad, I thought we were just talking about Giroux here and how he was basically a 3rd liner in the playoffs.

Not to mention the fact that I'm not gonna run the numbers because I can't believe people don't know this, but every single elite player in the NHL gets fat off PP points. Every single one, throughout the history of the sport

Could Giroux score more at ES? Sure. If people want to throw darts at a board, they can pretend that he is so deficient in that area that you can bust him on it

But I look at who this dude plays with, more often than not, and it's comical.

The last time the dude had two scoring wingers, he was a Hart Trophy candidate. The last time he had a winger who was actually scoring points, last season, he was a top-15 scorer in a league where scoring was universally down. Still was near PPG

But hey, whatever. More ES goals when Michael Raffl has three points all season is the least we can expect, amirite

- AllInForFlyers

I'm not a wise man, but I do know people will find something to female dog about, about anyone if they really want to. G is a top 10 center in the league. Like you said every top player in the league racks up points on the pp

This isn't the NBA. You need a decent team. Have him switch teams with Toews and I doubt the Flyers suddenly become a playoff team every ear and the Hawks regress.

Malkin won the Conn Smyth the year they won the Cup. Crosby was neutralized that series, more so in games 6 & 7.....he owes Max Talbot for not being "the best player to never win a Cup"

None of what you listed there are individual stats for Claude Giroux. I don't know any player who has ever played in this league, who can do it on his own. I do know one thing though, for the past dozen games or so, Giroux has put the team on his back and is trying to do it.

Has been out of Flyers system for some years now. Didn't do well with the Phantoms in a brief stint, went back to Russia and bounced around the KHL a bit.

I agree with you Joe, Giroux is not good enough to carry THIS team to the playoffs and the Cup. Guy is a bum, what are you gonna do. We're screwed.

l.o.l. so it's all on the captain to make sure the team makes the playoffs? Not the coach's systems? Not competent defense? Not good goaltending? Not general, good team play? That's a god damn joke, what you just said brother. Like someone else said, if you switch g with toews, kopitar, etc do the flyers win the cup in the past 5 or 6 years? That's a joke of a comment.

So, by that reasoning, Mark Messier was one of NHL's all-time great leaders for years but then magically morphed into a terrible one since his teams missed the playoffs each and every year for the final seven years of his career.
