But he has $200 billion sitting in his TD Bank account, why would he want to collect a few million more as opposed to not getting paid a few million more?
- jmatchett383

I think it's more about him feeling the Flyers are pushing him out the door. It's like a standoff. He wants to be bought out and the Flyers want him to retire or mutually terminate.

I don't think Vinny will retire at all. Read an article this morningthat interviewed him about his current state with the flyers and if retirement has crossed his mind . "No it hasn't. I'm mentally tough." Sounds like he's completely ok sitting on the sidelines cashing in checks

While not an ideal situation for a pro athlete, it's not a bad gig.

Why can't the Flyers do what the Kings did and come to an "agreement" on how much he should be paid to mutually terminate? And just have that amount be his remaining salary?

I really do believe that VdV is a golden boy because of his UND connection to Hakstol. Hak probably likes his game and trusts him on the ice from his old UND days, and that probably leads to favoritism. All coaches have favorites and no one is 100% without bias, but I would like to see VdV's minutes reduced.
- jmatchett383

Yeah I am with you there. It wouldnt surprise me if his minutes do get reduced throughout the year, but new coach, new system to most...doesn't surprise me that a guy doing what the coach is asking would get more ice time to lead by example.

I am all for guys like Laughton taking more minutes from them, but the reality is that he hasnt. Laughton has been one of the most disappointing Flyers to me. He needs to play better in his own zone and not create turnovers in order to get more ice time and move up the depth chart[/img]

That is still on the Kings books...just at a very reduced rate, which quite frankly, is bullpoop

Not sure. I think the whole thing is complicated because his salary is about to be far less than his cap hit.

Reads defense is what keeps him matched up against other teams top line. I agree though, I would love to see Raffl with Coots and then Read with G
- YuenglingJagr

I actually agree that there's no need to keep Read stapled to Couturier at all times especially since he said last year he prefers the RW. And Raffl is pretty good defensively...

Never really understood why some fans gave giroux poop for being a bad leader. I've personally always thought he's done a good job, regardless of the team winning or losing. That being said though , I don't have as keen of a hockey eye as some of the posters on here.

On another note regarding giroux, I always have thought that he's totally underrated for his 200 ft game

I think the Flyers would happily trade him with max retention this summer since it would be cheaper against the cap than a buyout. And the team getting him would only have to pay him $3m over two seasons.

But there's probably no team who wants to pay him even that much, and Vinny seems like he's in denial about that.

Let's not forget that Med has been playing a different game, on a different rink, his whole life... I doubt he had much time to be watching NHL hockey, too.

Parts of his game translated very easily to NA (NZ, transition, point-play)... but he's been an adventure in his own zone. Maybe they wanted him to take some time to learn/observe/absorb while they got a better read on Manning?

- Tomahawk

forget manning, others have not played well either at times.

he is 33 years old no rookie coming over from Europe. he had all summer and training camp.

I'd swap a few players around and go with:

Laughton - G - Schenn
Raffl - Gagner - Jake

- Tomahawk

I'd be willing to try that, just let Raffl take the faceoffs though.

He prefers the right side and so does BSchenn. The lack of depth on the left side is a bit of a problem, and Laughton needs to be better but I have no problem with those lines

I have no idea why Medvedev was scratched for that many games, but that is an example of Medvedev being held accountable. Did he respond?

Vdv gets more ice time than I would prefer, but I dont see him as a reason the Flyers are losing games.

- YuenglingJagr

why hasn't any other dman been scratched and held accountable? clearly they are all not doing a great job.

why not Raffl - Couts- Jake... I don't get the insistence on keeping read with couts. Are they like siamese twins or something?
- JoeRussomanno

Read-Couturier-Simmonds has been, by far, their best possession line and they are finally scoring as well. Why would you break them up now?

He also said he's going to play his entire contract out. It came off kind of spiteful.
- PhillySportsGuy

Maybe they should bring up Morin then, at least for a practice. And, if he happens to run into Vinny, at full steam, from behind, well...poop happens

If Claude Giroux was a real captain, he'd do it himself.

sure is. yet when he plays well no one talks about his transition or language barriers, only when he was scratched or plays bad does it come up.

Theres no way a team would take him on a two year deal. The Flyers forward depth is truly terrible and they can't even find a spot for him. Finding a team that would take him on a two year deal that he would also accept a trade to is impossible. Just need to ride this thing out IMO

a game here and there and rotating in. they haven't been sat because of their performance imo. just part of the rotation. what about Shultz, he hasn't looked good?
