Who cares where he was drafted anymore. The assets they have produce a 30th place team. They need a change and role players and D are what their looking for. I don't know who they are going to get but I'd put money on a former number 1 overall being packaged for a few role players and D this year. - washedup20
Not when McDavid is in the lineup. It's possible they move someone like Yak or Eberle but more likely as part of a package than for a package of role players who can be signed/drafted in the off-season.

I don't think Edmonton is a good trading partner for us. Plus, like I said yesterday, I don't want their stink in our locker room.
I atleast want to see that moulson ennis girgenson line for a few games this year before i start talking trade. It was the only bright spot all last year. If we can move a few expendables to find a winger to play with eichle and gio that would be awesome. Then come deadline decide what we want out of gorges. Heard wilson is out of favor in nashville. Maybe a combo of larsson, pysyk, mcginn and picks might tempt them. Rumor is that they are shopping shea webber for a top center so pysyk might be important in this sort of trade.

You didnt like that line of moulson girgenson ennis last year? - joshs
I liked it, sure. But is that line viable for the future? Is that a good enough 3rd line for the cost? None of those players are doing amazingly well this year and last year means little moving forward.

This is another attempt at trying to get talent for throwaway pieces. You had to trade Myers for Kane. You had to trade Zadorov and Compher for O'Reilly. You can't trade insignificant pieces for someone with talent. Regardless of how he's performed, Yak has talent. There's a reason he went #1. He won't fetch the same as McDavid or Crosby just because they all went #1, but he has more talent than a hundred Pysyks.
Sabres do not have the pieces to make a Yak trade without stripping away needed parts of the rebuild.

Unfortunately this is the position we are in when it comes to adding more pieces.

That was a different coach and a different system and a different year. They haven't been able to replicate any instance of that success ( Moulson has been the best of the 3) apart. I don't care if they're put together, but I don't think that it's some magic formula that all of a sudden Girgensons is going to go off and get 30 assists and Moulson will get his Tavares numbers back and Ennis will become worth his money. All three are okay players.

Ennis would be a good starting point, but not what EDM is looking for, they are trying to get rid of that type of player. So we would be able to do something for a player like Yak but we are not good partners for EDM, we are both looking for the same thing.

Girgs has done exactly what has been asked of him this year and is doing it very well. The other two.....
This question of "What if Canada isn't in their division" has already been answered. USA hockey can ask for Canada to be placed in their round. USA Hockey wouldn't have gambled on this big of a commitment without having that option. Could the IIHF say no? Sure they could, but it's less likely.
