I didn't say he's a top line player. But he is a top 6 forward so if you're going to move the one top 6 RW you have you'd better have a plan to replace that.
I know he's far from perfect (tough start this year as well) but a top 6 guy at 4.6 mil is a pretty good thing to have. - Sabresfan-365
Build down the middle to the backend.
Wingers are a dime a dozen and always work themselves out.
How is he "obviously injury prone"? The shoulder injury this year that caused him to miss 13 games was the first significant injury of his career except for an appendectomy in his rookie year, which is hardly fair to consider a hockey injury.
He played 69 regular season games as a rookie (appendectomy), 78 games in 2011/12 (34g 42a 76p), all 48 in the lockout year (16g 21a 37p), 80 in 2013/14 (putting up 28g 37a 65p) and 81 in 2014/15 (putting up 24g 39a 63p).
He's in the prime of his career right now and I'd argue his declining numbers the past few seasons have more to do with the fact that Edmonton as a whole was really, really bad the past few years. - TheMaritimer
It was a joke....my way of mirroring what people were calling Lehner
Just curious if you could explain your reasoning... Eberle's scored 60+ points in 3 out of his 4 full seasons in the league and has averaged 0.78 PPG across his career to date. Yakupov on the other hand hasn't broken more than 33 points in a single season and has averaged 0.46 PPG across his career. Eberle's had the advantage of playing with better players (mainly in RNH & Hall), but the argument can be made that Yakupov certainly has had multiple chances to earn a spot on the the top line and has repeatedly failed to do so.
I'm not bashing you at all, just curious as to why you think Yakupov is a better fit. There's quite a few people who are still pretty high on Yakupov, and I don't quite understand why after his largely disappointing career to date. - TheMaritimer

I'm not worried. - dadeadhead
Yes, the lack of scoring from wingers has absolutely not been a problem. I definitely do not find myself tearing my hair out every time i see gionta on the ice at 3-on-3.

He's kind of right though. Wingers are interchangeable.
Great players (centers) make players around them better.
Unless you are someone like Nash, Benn, Hossa Tarasenko etc, you can be replaced.
That being said, there is a difference between average, and Gionta
Emmis hasn't been anything near a top line player thus far. - dadeadhead
Hes great when we are having trouble breaking out. His speed opens the ice up. I dont mind keeping ennis as an xfactor. Bring back that line of moulson girgenson ennis. They seemed to be good for almost a goal a game.

But that's my point. Im not saying they need to spend big on wingers, but you do need solid wingers.
If you move Ennis your best natural RW is who? That's not to say Ennis is untouchable but having a solid top 6 winger at that cap hit is very desirable.

yeah, I know...however, guhle's performance at training camp kinda changed things for me...he looked as if he was ready to play in the nhl this year...Florentino should hit Rochester next season and 19 yr. old Brycen martin is having a big season with Everett in the whl... - Michael Pachla

Agree on every point.
Also regarding Gio its not that h's on Eichels line that bothers me as much as we have
36 almost 37 year on winger thats no producing playing 10 more minutes a game than engery players like Mcginn, Moose, Larsson.

I wonder what Ennis's injury is and how long he was trying to play through it. While his play at the beginning of the year wasn't great, he had started to look better. Then he missed a game or two, came back and looked like he didn't know what the hell was going on out there.

I must have missed something somewhere. Who is Moose??
