So you are saying Harmonic is worth MORE than a top 5 draft pick? Who’s laughing at who now? - al3535
We already scolded him for his use of "loling"
Either way, just the fact that he doesn't understand why nurse is more important to us than say Jacob chycrun, says a ton of how little he understands the organization.
Tough to even debate with that...... |

The fact that you think a 1st round pick is useful at all to the Islanders says a ton of how little you understand the organization.
Why the hell would the Islanders trade an established top-4 defenseman in his prime when they're trying to contend for the Cup for a (frank)ing 1st round pick? |

IMO the Yotes might consider taking on some of the really bad contracts around. Think of Stoner from the Ducks, Smid from the Flames, Stuart from the Avs. Some of those brilliant GMs who inked those, might give up some juicy talent, albeit picks and prospects a few years away, in order to sweeten the pot. But than who am I…certainly not as smart as Pete the cat.

Tanner, you think OEL is an elite level d man on a par with guys like Lidstrom, Doughty and Keith YET you think his peak years are passing him now?
Elite d men peak somewhere in the 20s and truly ELITE d men usually maintain their peaks past 30.
If he is the best d man in the NHL you are selling him low. Is he elite or not? |

Edmonton is 8 points out of a playoff spot currently, and are giving up games to teams above them. They'd have to go on a historic run at this point, and would have to start it real soon. - MJL
A historic run? Give me a break. They sit 5 points back with 55 games to play and could make that up in a week. |

Maybe you should get the numbers correct when you are stating an opinion. Might actually give you some credibility.

I wonder ...
I mean assuming you don't have a degree in business, you'd probably have a guy in charge of running parking/concession revenues.
As well as a guy in charge of marketing.
And a bunch of scouts obviously travelling and giving lowdown.
A massive over simplification maybe, but as long as your negotiating, delegating skills were strong as well as a solid head for identifying te deficiencies- I think it's s doable for a dude with above average intelligence regardless if they haven been ' in the game'. Which would probably only hinder the fact that you don't have a ton of prior relationships with the boys club in the game
Is this a silly contention and totally unreasonable ? - Ihateallofu
No it actually is reasonable, especially because I don't hold fast to things I used to think, don't get emotionally tied to past ideas and I ask a lot of questions and defer to people who know more than me.

No you are right. The Coyotes should be doing this. It remains to be seen if they will though. They have made moves recently that suggest they aren't as cheap as they used to be, so we will see. |

Huh ?
i made no offers on hamonic.
It's pretty clear we don't have what they want.
We were talking about nurse and a lottery pick in relation to oel

Peak and Prime are two different things. Players tend to put up their best years between 23-26. That is a fact.
OEL will be effective for a long time. He is a great player, possibly one day will go to the hall of fame and be considered the second best swedish defensemen ever.
BUT it's more about what you could get for him - an absolute haul - that has to be compared to the fact that he will be slightly declined from his peak by the time the team is ready to win and the fact that he will require a massive contract when he needs to be re signed/
They could realistically get some pieces for him that are more inline with their time line. But, I'm not sold on the idea, it's just a think piece. From a fan perspective I'd say keep him no matter what. |

For a stats guy you surprise me. Teams 4 or 5 points back by around Thanksgiving are typically out of the playoff running. Not impossible, but not easy either.

- James_Tanner
With top players such as OEL, that statistical "fact" should be thrown out the window. You can never predict physical issues such as future injuries taking a toll, but if as long as he stays healthy, OEL should remain a top defenseman in this league for the next decade.

OEL for Gardiner and Kadri?
OEL for Muzzin and a 2nd? - rangerdanger94
The real question is OEL worth one of the best centers in the game and a defenseman on the same level as Keith? May be an overpayment for the Leafs. |

I remember Feaster saying that the Flames were set up to take on some bad contracts. The NHL then came up with those compliance buy outs which really screwed the Flames over. These types of deals don't materialize very often. It's usually easier just to let the bad contracts expire. |
