After the vehemence that was shown against Medvedev, it kinda pisses me off that Schultz got a pass

Schultz is meat and potatoes tho

No gostisbehere gear at the store either. They really can't do anything right

He's not likely going to be wearing #53 beyond this year, why waste the money right now?

Yeah, it's not a commentary on the team, rather the coverage of the team. Guess some people are too dumb to read the other posts about the way the team played and decided to nitpick the other post.

I think OB is right on Gostisbehere gear. His number may well change, plus a lot of the jerseys/shirtseys are made at the start of the season, and shipped. It's a centralized operation, not local.

I'm still confused as to why Schultz wasn't traded last year

I found the store to have very little over all this year....I like those 47 tee shirts, but this time the store had none....Eagles shop had a lot more.

He's a solid veteran defensive defenseman, who can help bridge the gap until the reinforcements arrive.

They resigned him in season last year.

I'd have Schultz and streit front and center on the market well ahead of the deadline. No matter where they are in the standings

I'm personally more worried about issues being corrected than whether a player is called out by the media. Schultz did the same thing as Medvedev did, made a clear up to a point with no Flyer present. All 5 Flyers were on the same side of the ice. The best thing that could've happened there is communicate to Schultz to either eat the puck, or send up the wall on the same side he was at. There was support there. More importantly, why was the team so flat overall? Both teams played the night before. Columbus was more pissed off from losing the night before I guess. The Flyers overall effort was unacceptable.

i think some are concerned with oaching not calling out a schultz too

He has not played as solid this year....hopefully both Morin and Hagg can start to help out some what next year after a solid year in Lehigh Valley....with that some of these stop gap guys won't be needed much longer.

I don't beleive Schultz needs to be called out by the coaches. He is at best a serviceable #4 NHL defenseman, being asked to take on a bigger role. I'm not surprised he is struggling this year. He played over his head last season. Schultz is simply a stop gap player until the Flyers can build their defense to where it needs to be. I'm more concerned with why even being down big in the game, the coach didn't reunite Voracek with Giroux in the 3rd period to see if they could get something going.

I agree that he hasn't, but I'm not surprised by it. I think he played over his head much of last season.

I'd have medvedev on the block too at the deadline. He might be their best trade piece come deadline. Have to take advantage of it

All true but this is the part when you tell us what schultz brings can't be replaced in UFA

That's true, but it would depend on the offer. If I'm blown away I take it, if not, I might not move him. Also depends on how well he plays the remainder of the season. You can't trade everyone.

Canadian ....yes....US$ ...around 30-35....considering my bar tab, that's a small expense on those trips.

Schultz is having a bad year with 1 year remaining on his deal. Could have sold high last year. They'd do no better than a mid round pick now.

The idea that they couldn't have signed a veteran, third pair defenseman in free agency for around the same price is ridiculous. The Flyers didn't really need anymore veterans anyway. They have so many they had to send one down to the Phantoms before the season started.

No actually it's the part where I tell you that one, you like to have some continuity on your team, and secondly, you tend to have to overpay for free agents. A veteran defenseman of Schultz caliber could cost you over 3M a year, not to mention that it might take a multi year deal. None of what Hextall is doing is random. Signing Schultz for two years was about a timeline, and what the vision of the future is. Schultz fit in well last year, and it made sense to re-sign him. I'm not against a trade of Schultz, if they need to create roster space, but I'm not in favor of reaching out to the free agent market to pay more, and for longer for a replacement. I'm interested in moving out veterans for younger players.

They wouldn't have gotten anything more last year. At best a 3rd round pick, and I doubt they could've gotten that. It made perfect sense to bring Schultz back.
