I just don't think Tampa Bay is going to pay him. They want to resign, but for less than Kane / Toews money. Don't blame them, but Stamkos will want that plus a little bit.
Other thing that is interesting, I don't think you get taxed in Florida for income so less could be more? - Lilroot9
no state tax down here, so that is a perk
the issue with the bolts is simple
they have to pay a lot to stamkos and hedman to keep the group together and the friendly deals they got for johnson and palat are going to double when they expire in 18 months
they will need to have their prospect pool deep if they find a way to keep all the stars

I'm not giving up those kind of assets for a guy that's going to be a UFA in July. - HonkFortheGoose
If it was
Larsson
Pysyk
2nd
I would do it at that time. But for some reason I would think another team will try to jump on it. The issue is always going to be if Stamkos would resign with them (with cap a very close second). I think we could resign and I do think he would play here. This team would be amazing! Could you imagine a Stamkos / Eichel line? They don't even need a third player on that line, haha. |

Best Sabres trade proposal for Stamkos (at trade deadline, with no additional contract in place) and go....
Ennis / Larsson
Pysyk
Bailey / Fashing - Lilroot9
Stamkos has to approve the trade and buffalo is probably on his do not trade list. So no point offering for what will never be. |

I know they have some interesting books coming soon. That is why they don't want to pay him $11M/season for 8 years. (which is where Stamkos is, if not higher, I am sure)
The other thing is Yzerman is not letting him leave for nothing, so if he does not think it will get done, he will trade him. |

Mr. Pegula will fly down there and make him agree. I know that sounds cheesy, but I think Buffalo is taking over a lot of the duties for NHL and want to do more. It is a strong look for the league. He is super close to Toronto, which will not be competitive for another few seasons, if that. If we give him max-ish type deal and he sees our roster, I think he would jump at the opportunity. |

He likes toronto bcz its toronto, good or bad thats the mecca of the hockey world. we all know about buffalos upsides (better players, wayy cheaper living etc) but theres a reason babcock choose toronto over buffalo. |

When Stamkos has the hardware that Kane and Toews have, he can ask for that kind of money. IMO, he's not worth that much. I'd take either one of them on my team before I'd take him.
Don't get me wrong, he's a very good player. But I don't think he's worth that much per year. |

Toews gets overhyped. He's a great player but not an elite scorer like Stamkos is. I think I'd rather have Stamkos |

kane on the ice belongs in the conversation with ovi , benn and stamkos as the best players in the game
after saying that, no way does team hardware determine if stamkos should be paid like a top 5 player in the game
and right now the hawks are a point out of 5th in their division
when you pay 2 guys a ton of money, you need a full pipeline to plug in cheap guys to fill out that roster and right now the hawks are a fringe playoff team with kane playing unreal hockey

They're like this almost every single year. They turn it up when they really need to and that's what really matters most. They also were without their top defenseman for a few weeks.
As far Sbroads comments about Stamkos being the more elite scorer, I'd take the guy that produces at a higher rate in the playoffs any day. And that player out of the two of them, is Toews. |

Toews went 2 and 1/2 series without a goal a few years ago.
He's a great player, and most likely a top 5 player. But I'll take the guy who has scored the 2nd most goals in the league to Ovi since he was drafted. |

Either way, the comment was initially in reference to contracts.
A top 10 player at the age of 25, deserves to be paid like a top 10 player at 25. He will get Kane/Toews money. Also keep in mind, Kane and Toews probably would have gotten more if they were on different teams |

I've said this before, but when you trade for a high profile UFA like that, nobody makes that trade unless the two teams are in the ballpark with the agent as far as the ability to re-sign. - buffalofan19
He's going to Toronto....worst kept secret in hockey. |
