True, white guys are all superstars, that's a given. Hell, Shawn Bradley was good enough to make the cast of Space Jam. - jmatchett383

Instead of showing where certain players were drafted, I'd be more impressed with seeing what % of players picked in the top-5 went on to be good/great players. I'm curious how many Shawn Braldey's there are for every Allen Iverson. - jmatchett383
Thats also a good point. You could be getting Michael Oluwakandi |

PSG's point was that those are near impossible to find. It's like drafting Datsyuk -- you can't just go in and find that type of player late in drafts. Drafting high potential sleeper guys is a thing -- it working out where you nab a star is incredibly fortunate and a rarity. So I wonder what Hinkie will do with the entire second round of picks he has for the next decade....maybe up his chances to find a key player late? Nahhhh - Mononoke
Thing is good teams are able to see talent. The Spurs currently have one player they drafted in the top 5. Duncan.
So did they get lucky with other players or are they able to find talent. |

There are 1.25 Allen Iversons per Sean Bradley. |

The Spurs don't waste picks of guys like Klotz and Rinaldo. They pick random low-risk/high-reward Russians. |

He just so happens to be one of the best players of all time. NBD.
Seriously though.. There are exceptions. But drafting in the 11-14 range is less likely statistically to get you a championship than drafting in the top 5.
The NHL is like that as well. |

Spurs are the best of the best in that regard and have been for awhile. I hope the Sixers have good talent evaluators, even if they aren't Spurs good. No one is. But they have a boatload of late picks where they are upping the chances of hitting the lottery. Even the Spurs don't find a star late every single season. Hinkie has been GM for soon to be 3 seasons -- whether it tastes good or not, the cake is still being baked. And lord knows there are still a (frank) ton of ingredients yet to be put in. Judging the Hinkie regime for their draft picks so far is beyond premature when they haven't picked 90% of the ones he's gotten. |

The only top 5 pick they've had is Okafor and he definitely looks like a guy who could make future all star games. Embiid is the other, but he hasnt played. They've had 1 top 5 pick play and he looks good after 20 games, but this whole thing has been a mistake!!!! If only we signed Jameer Nelson and Elton Brand everything would be just fine!!! - PhillySportsGuy
I could throw the same flawed logic back and say, let's just look at the team's record and the progress they've made to see how well it's working. Look, I applaud your optimism, and I hope it's rewarded, but the idea that they are actually moving forward, and there are these "subtle" signs is not the reality at this point. They could draft a star that could turn it all around, or they could not. As of right now the team and the organization is an embarrassment, and it's difficult for me to come to that conclusion. |

I just can't agree with a team where the team is put together to purposely lose. The players will play but the team is built to lose. And not just for one year. They have basically made a mockery of the NBA. This is the 4th biggest market and they have built a loser. |

PSG won't like this, he'd trade Okafor and both of his balls for him. |

Part of team building is more than just drafting players. You have to create a culture and environment that is conducive to winning, and where young players can learn how to win, and can grow into winners. and learn how to be pros. Right now it's a caustic environment, and it shows. At some point the Sixers have to take a step forward. |

# of top 5 picks who made at least 1 all star game
1996
5/5
1997
2/5
1998
3/5
1999
3/5
2000
1/5
2001
2/5
2002
1/5
2003
4/5
2004
2/5
2005
2/5
2006
1/5
2007
3/5
2008
3/5
2009
2/5
2010
2/5
So when you pick in the top 5, it's about a 50% chance of landing an all star. You're actually better off having picks 1-5 than having picks 6-60. |

They were forced into this by Doug Collins and the previous regime. No cap space, 1 good player and multiple first rounders owed to the Magic and Heat. |
