Simmer is an awful shootout player by the eye, but he had a great year last year in it. His shooing percentage was like 33% it said. My mind says yuck, but he's had some success. Voracek isn't good at it either. With Gagner out, it's a shootout poop show. We should just be happy VDV didn't get a chance. - Mononoke
Or Bellemare. I think a third shot directly into Halak's glove would have finally killed the damned thing |

He was so far back to begin with he had no choice but to keep back pedaling. Wasn't the worst, and I could give him a pass if that wasn't his MO. It wasn't terrible in a vacuum. He is Ben Carson passive through the NZ. Horrid gap control. It's his biggest bugaboo. Back skates until he has to get caught in between and try to just block it.
He had a decent game otherwise, but that facet of his game will never change. And always be lacking. Your denial of THAT is the bias we all know and love. I'm happy he's back up for you. I really am. - Mononoke
He had to sit back, it was 2 Isles on one, with the forward on that side going off for a line change. He has no choice. Your commentary on that play showed a clear bias against the player. It's basic hockey, a defenseman has to have support to stand up. Del Zotto backs in and allows Neilsen to shoot the puck, and a goal is scored. Schultz backed in and allowed easy entries on occasion. Gostisbehere and Manning got hemmed in after a poor turnover on shifts. Medvedev had a few turnovers. MacDonald played nearly 20 minutes against quality competition, with 38% O zone start percentage, and was a plus possession player. He made numerous quality plays in the game, including a nice poke check in the corner, winning a board battle against 3 islanders, and outletting the puck for a rush. Knocking Taveras off the puck and making a tape to tape pass to start a rush. He played a solid game. |

Pretty sure Medvedev was trying this...no issue with that choice - Jsaquella
Leight.
D men don't get many opportunities on breakaways and shootouts. Probably his favorite move. |

I don't care what Voracek's success rate is in the shootout, I still give him a shot at it. Not sure I like going first at home. |

I think I would have changed the order, maybe use Giroux third. I would have liked to see Gostisbehere or Voracek, despite Jake's pedestrian shootout totalss |

The problem with using Giroux 3rd, is if the Isles score with their first two shooters, and you don't score with one, your best shooter never gets a chance. |

Watched the replay 4 times. You're wrong about the play, and wrong about MacDonald, in the game. The analysis you offered on that play, proves it. - MJL
You should watch it again. You're missing something |

Because aside from the one okay play on Tavares and the marginally positive possession stats
, I didn't see anything close to what you saw. Just more of the same mediocre play like the rest of our D. |

The entire Flyers team today, played a solid game. If not for at least one save that Mason would normally make, if not two, the Flyers win the game outright. They were also very unlucky on a number of goalmouth scrambles. Also had a goal taken away, that could've gone either way.

Can't use Giroux 3rd. He's your best. You want to guarantee you use him in every shootout. |

You are justifying a bad defenseman based on marginal possession numbers and 2 or 3 decent plays. Confirmation bias at its finest. |

Guys, they lost a shootout. A gimmick. It's irritating, but it's not like they haven't lost many of them before
There were some not great things tonight, but there were some good ones, too -- Isles are good, they had been playing well, Flyers showed a little resolve in getting the point
The Flyers are what we know them to be -- pretty much a .500 team right now. But they are showing signs of being the right kind of .500 team: One that will get better. Not one that is getting worse |

The Flyers for long stretches of the game, dominated the Isles. This team has shown time and again how well they can play. Unfortunately, they've also shown how poor they can play such as the losing streak, and the Columbus game. They need to find some consistency somehow.
