For the sake of the severe boredom I have at work, IF Stamkos were to hit free agency this summer, would you want Philly to take a run at him? Would you trade Jake or G to make room for him? - arichardson22
Only if they able to get rid of AMac, Streit, Vinny and RJ. Stamkos is going to command a ton of cap room. |

I think they are better poised to turn it around despite their sad sack record the last few years....doesn't mean they will and they could flounder for years still.
just looking at the "assets" it is very appealing.
they can go out and get guys via free agency to turn it around.the flyers cant imo. - rinaldo
that is completely specific to basketball. I would also love to know the situation that causes a guy to go to the sixers when he has max contracts available elsewhere |

So Semin cleared waivers is in the A now. I know he's basically Zherdev 2.0 but isn't that a quick, cheap fix on top 6 winger talent? |

Kind of sad that, if they could rid themselves of AMac, Vinny, and Umberger, they'd have more than enough room to pursue Stamkos. |

He could help Brayden Schenn with one aspect of his game

That 3rd line would be Semin / Bellemare / Voracek - not too shabby. |

Balderdash. Semin doesn't backcheck and never went to UND. Those are keys to making Hakstol's team. |

what specific to basketball?
not a lot of teams can offer the max contracts the sixers can...if it is all about $$ they have a good advantage.
they have good young talent. maybe an all star guy thinks he can turn it around and be that key guy. then he gets another one his boys to join in.
why would a star free agent want to come to the flyers right now? |

They could buyout Vinny, AMac, and Umberger for a cap savings of around 7.6 million. Of course, that is quite a check to cut for one team (even the flyers). It just doesn't sound like it is even possible. Comcast would have to basically suddenly raise everyones' rates on their bills without telling them and hoping they don't notice. Well, okay, maybe it is possible. |

Why would the Flyers want a star free agent to come? in the NHL free agency has a history of being a waste of money. I am glad they arent going to outbid anyone. The flyers also have young talent, and they don't have career threatening foot injuries
Basketball has a higher success rate of not only signing free agents, but them making a significant impact towards the success of a team. (and smaller benches) |

I could see him going to Toronto if Tampa can't re sign him. He'd be worshipped in Toronto but they'd have to give up serious yound assets to get him. I'm sure max salary wouldn't bother TO though. - Hextall271
Rangers, too.
Sather loves star players, Hank ain't gettin' any younger, and they have a bevy of young NHL pieces that TB would be interested in (Lindberg, Hayes, Fast, Miller, Kreider, etc) and TB loves their Russians -- Rags have Buchnevich who's lighting up the KHL right now as a 20-yo. Not to mention the recent trade history there. |

Specific to basketball is that 1 all star makes you contender, and 2 all stars make you the front-runner. In hockey, that makes you a likely playoff team.
If it was all about money, and the Sixers have one of the lowest payrolls in the league, why haven't they gone out and gotten these easily-obtainable free agent all stars you speak of to help lead this young team? |

They could give Stamkos that $3 mil but they would still have a problem signing Kucherov, Paquette, Killorn, Brown, and most importantly, Coburn - Streit2ThePoint
it's not that important to sign coburn |

Buyout Vinny and RJ. I still be leive you can trade AMac and a 3rd to a team with caproom for a 5th, just to be rid of him. Add that in with replacing Streit with Ghost and likely replacing Luke with a slightly cheaper option that leaves them a nice chunk of change to play with. Not likely, but possible.

High end cap of $74.5 is a projection. Some are also skepitcal and believe it could hang around where it is now, $71.4. |
