Buyout Vinny and RJ. I still be leive you can trade AMac and a 3rd to a team with caproom for a 5th, just to be rid of him. Add that in with replacing Streit with Ghost and likely replacing Luke with a slightly cheaper option that leaves them a nice chunk of change to play with. Not likely, but possible. - hereticpride
I think a trade of MacDonald would be a lot more feasible after the 16/17 season provided he's playing in the NHL and playing well. Would also require retained salary. I don't think a trade now or this off season is very likely.

I find it hilarious that the same people who are very pessimistic about the Flyers are so optimistic about the Sixers. I am not necessarily pointing at you, but you mentioned it and I see it a lot - YuenglingJagr
I'm pretty optimistic about both in the future. Less optimistic about the Sixers now than I was 2 days ago.
The Flyers will certainly be contending before the Sixers. The Flyers pretty much have their stud blue liners already in the system. Sixers likely don't have a top 10 player yet, but have a good chance of getting one or having Embiid develop into one.

Wait...so you mean locking a bunch of people into a building and having a massive drug-induced orgy WON'T make everyone in the world love each other???
Sather loves star players, Hank ain't gettin' any younger, and they have a bevy of young NHL pieces that TB would be interested in (Lindberg, Hayes, Fast, Miller, Kreider, etc) and TB loves their Russians -- Rags have Buchnevich who's lighting up the KHL right now as a 20-yo. Not to mention the recent trade history there. - Tomahawk
Sather is no longer the GM and Rangers will have a lot of issues getting everyone signed for next season. They do not have the space for a 10/year guy

Key to being a legit contender in the NBA:
Acquire 1 really good player via free agency or the draft
That is all. It's a lot more difficult in hockey. - jmatchett383
I don't think any team in recent history has signed a top 10 player without having a top 10 player already on the roster. Only one I can think of was Amare signing with the Knicks, but that was under the impression that the Knicks were also going to be getting Carmello.
Only way to get them is via trade or draft. Most top 10 players are selected within the top 5 picks.

I agree. Some people seem to think that these guys are easy to sign, though, as long as you have money.

I could see him going to Toronto if Tampa can't re sign him. He'd be worshipped in Toronto but they'd have to give up serious yound assets to get him. I'm sure max salary wouldn't bother TO though. - Hextall271
He also stands to make a lot more off the ice in Toronto than he does in Tampa

Yeah, they need to resign Kreider, Hayes, and Miller. Unless they unload some big pieces, they can't fit him.

Sorry I don't get down with a world where everyone just wants to sit around telling each other how much they love each other. The world we live in is far from perfect, but there's a happy medium somewhere.

You'd imagine that one (or more) of those impending RFA's would be part of the deal, and TB would welcome Brassard or Zuccarello to ease the cap burden for the Rangers.
They could buyout Vinny, AMac, and Umberger for a cap savings of around 7.6 million. Of course, that is quite a check to cut for one team (even the flyers). It just doesn't sound like it is even possible. Comcast would have to basically suddenly raise everyones' rates on their bills without telling them and hoping they don't notice. Well, okay, maybe it is possible. - YuenglingJagr
They just did though its a sneaky $2 or so here and there x millions of users..
Maybe you are on to something

The NBA cap is jumping a ton in the next two years. Everyone will have money. I always thought this was the offseason when the Sixers were going to start to make things happen. They've done things to help themselves in the future even if they become a better team. They have a pick swap with the Kings for this coming draft and the next draft. They have the Kings first rounder in 2019 and they have the Lakers first (top 3 protected) this year and it will eventually transfer and likely be a very high pick (Whether its this year or next year).
I'm not a fan of Okafor and I always thought Hinkie selected him because he holds the most value and would just flip him later. We'll see what happens now. Hinkie should have made some minor moves like keeping Ish Smith and bringing in a veteran to help out. I'm not even sure a veteran would have helped Okafor though. If you have a gun pointed at you and you still act like an idiot, I doubt a talking to from Carl Landry is going to help.
The only basketball related move he's made that hasn't worked out is taking Okafor over Porzingas. I would have taken Okafor too, but I don't have all day to watch workouts and travel to Latvia.
