Then he can continue to rot in the press box and collect his millions of dollars and I will continue to envy his life of luxury and not feel bad for him as a player. - jmatchett383
I know it's not what he wants, but seriously, that's not a bad life for a couple years.
work out daily
play some hockey in the morning
watch a game from excellent seats at night
His life could be a frank of a lot worse. |

I know that. But people always say if he walks away he won't get money. He'll get another job. Plus it would probably be a nice thing for the Lightening, bring back an old hero into the FO.
Especially if they lose Stamkos. - J35Bacher
He'll get a job, but I doubt the Lightning will pay him $3mm a year to greet fans, scout guys or stand next to Therien with a mic |

I think this is all about wanting to be an NHL player. - BulliesPhan87
Thats on him. He's too (frank)ing slow and fragile to play on a scoring line and too inept defensively (and still slow and fragile) to play in the bottom six, and, finally. at 4.5 million per, he's too (frank)ing expensive to be a 13/14th forward.
Get your head out of your ass Vinny and take a good, hard objective look at yourself in the mirror. You aren't good enough to play in the NHL anymore. Tough breaks pal, but facts are facts. And, in all honesty, you 've made a (frank)ing fortune playing a game so boo (frank)ing hoo, get over yourself precious and retire!
Every day you continue pretending to be an NHL player, you just continue to embarrass yourself. |

I mean, it's all well and good that any of us can see the writing on the wall. But at the end of the day, all that matters is what he thinks, and we're all just shouting into the void. |

Maybe he has accepted he's no longer good enough to be a NHL player. If so, why not stay and get another $6mm or so for staying in shape and eating popcorn in the press box? Or force the Flyers to pay you $4mm more over the next 4 years? |

I'm not a cord cutter but my Googling informed me of the reason I'm fairly in the dark about this EPIX thing. It's not available with DirecTV. Oh well. But reading their website leads me to believe I'm not missing anything I can't get elsewhere so I'm not sure it's a loss. |

Practically speaking, yes... but he's kind of at that point where he's got to be considering his legacy... guy was supposed to be slam-dunk Jean Beliveau 2.0 HOF'er... he already fell a bit short of that, and now I can understand why he'd hold out hope for some level of on-ice redemption to at least remain in the conversation for HOF at some point down the road. |

Not imho. Actually it's the opposite for me. He's being nothing but professional in trying to hold up his end of the deal.
I really don't understand why fans get so angry about his situation. There is no good use for his money this year or next so what's the difference? |

Let's hope he doesn't get bought out though because he definitely has incentive now for retiring a year before his contract is up
I want a buy out to just be done with this mess. It's uncomfortable for management, Vinny, and his teammates. The buyout is pennies, especially with all the entry level contracts coming up. Just bite the bullet and buy him out. It's not even a bullet really -- more like a nerf dart |

I doubt the waning years of his career (the Flyers years) are going to have much impact at all on that discussion. |

He could retire, become a multiple Cup winner as a coach/GM and get in as a builder. |
|
|
|
I'd go to him and say, look, here's my idea: you retire on July 2nd, get the $2mm bonus, then we hire you as assistant to Comcast's VP of promotions in Tampa for $2mm a year. You're office will be your house and you work 1second a year.
If you don't agree, then you're going to be bought out in June and best of luck finding a NHL deal. - Jsaquella
something similar I have said for a while...have him just flat out retire...flyers hire him for whatever was owed that he lost retiring. make up some titel or whatever.
though I don't tell him he will be bought out. he may want that.- |

I suppose, I guess I just favor the players that actually take pride in what they do and what it means to be an NHL player. The money aside, he's basically stealing a roster spot from a guy who's likely on a two way contract, and thats a big deal for those guys. Is Vinny's life going to be any different if he's worth 70, 80 or even 100 million? Not really. I have no respect for him anymore. He was given a chance with a new coach, tried his best, but just can't cut it.
Stop stealing another, more deserving, players job; hang em up, Vinny. Please. |
