it is a game of chicken, just depends how you want to handle it..i call his bluff as no need to buy him out just yet imo. wait another year
- rinaldo

I see a very real need. He's taking a roster spot limiting the ability of the GM to bring young players up and get them experience and forcing the coach to have to use him in the case of short term injuries.

I'd rather have the extra roster spot &'deal with minor cap penalty

It's not. Neither side has to do anything. Nobody has to blink. Nobody is bluffing so there's nothing to call. It's really all in the Flyers' hands on how they want to deal with it and it's pretty much a financial decision first, and a roster decision second.

I'm leaning towards them buying him out, if for nothing more than to get it over with. These "creative" ideas we're coming up with here are fun, but there are really only three options: mutually terminate, buyout, retire. I think the first and third are remote possibilities at best.
- Scoob

Yeah, I just want it over, a buyout is fine.

as would I...though depends what they want to use for...imo team isnt close to contending so don't limit yourself in the future...waiting another year wont hinder anything I don't think.

Telling you guys, make him dress as a goalie, make him wear #69, and misspell his name as "WASHED UP" on his jersey.

VLC just has to score 1 goal to tie Voracek.. Put them both in the lineup, first one to score gets to play on the 1st line, the other guy has to retire. I dont believe in the "No win scenario"

I also just want it over. Hell, I'd have been ok if he got bought out last summer.

Even if he finished his contract on Giroux's line he wouldnt make it to 500 goals
- Trainfellow

Dunno, if you asked Vinny, he'd probably insist that he'd have a fighting chance.

Guys who do that in men's leagues are generally giant tools.

That season was so much fun...WC and 24/7 had a lot to do with it. Bryz had some part of it. Jagr had a large amount to do with it.

Every team should be doing series like this that help connect fans to players. I remember feeling like we knew them all personally

And for those lamenting PEB's many chances to score last night, ponder this: 101 NHL games, 9 goals. He's a very good 4th liner/pk guy, thats it. Expecting any more and you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed.

Backreading so sorry if too Leight, but that's where I am

That's not meant as disrespect; being a good, consistent fourth-line player is a necessity for NHL teams, and Bellemare is a good one who adds value with his ability to play on the PK

But no, I don't expect him to score and I don't get disappointed when he doesn't

I still have the "Thank You Fans" poster (from fan appreciation night) hanging on my wall. Another helping factor, of course, was a triple digits score in the standings. Even in light of that, it's startling how joyless the organization seems now compared to then.

No disrespect intended. I just think that many fans expect more out of players than some are capable of.

Agreed -- take Michael Raffl.

It's clear by now that the 20-goal season is the outlier. He's a good skater, defensively sound forward who can do some good things on the forecheck, possess the puck some.

We shouldn't be surprised that he doesn't score anymore. Truthfully, the only player I am surprised by this season is Voracek, because he's just been so snake-bitten, he just can't get anything to go.

But even Voracek's a 20-25 goal player. He isn't a pure goal-scorer, though obviously, he shouldn't be sitting on one

And I understand that.

I bet there is very minimal chance he plays again for the Flyers. If they can they will play call ups over him. That would be my plan. Make him practice, train, travel and never get a sniff. I know the Flyers and Vinny signed the deal but that was a different GM. Hextall has no attachment with Vinny. I would just let him sit and not risk and injury where your forced to LTIR for the remainder of his deal like Pronger.

- J35Bacher

A career ending injury as long as he can still maintain quality of life, wouldn't be a bad thing for the Flyers.

I mean, it's all well and good that any of us can see the writing on the wall. But at the end of the day, all that matters is what he thinks, and we're all just shouting into the void.
- BulliesPhan87

I agree. I don't think he's embarrassing himself either. He thinks he can still play, and he's just simply not ready to end it. Look at what players like Pacal Dupuis and Kimmo Timmonen went through just to try and play? They wanted to go out on their own terms or until they were forced out. Lacavalier has a contract, so he can't be forced out right now. Both sides are posturing.

Not imho. Actually it's the opposite for me. He's being nothing but professional in trying to hold up his end of the deal.

I really don't understand why fans get so angry about his situation.

Let's hope he doesn't get bought out though because he definitely has incentive now for retiring a year before his contract is up

I want a buy out to just be done with this mess. It's uncomfortable for management, Vinny, and his teammates. The buyout is pennies, especially with all the entry level contracts coming up. Just bite the bullet and buy him out. It's not even a bullet really -- more like a nerf dart

- Mononoke

Personally, I don't think it's uncomfortable for management or his teammates. It's a business. I don't think Hextall is uncomfortable at all about as a GM. On a personal level he may wish it was different, but business wise, he's going to do what's best for the team, and he's sleeping well at night. The player's got a lot of other things on their mind, and I doubt other than interacting at practice, I don't think they give Lecavalier much thought.

Match him up against Gudas for an entire 1-on-1 body checking drill during next practice.
