What is up with Steve Mason? Did he commit some sin and is now cursed?
He was always the goalie who made the gimme save, most of the tough saves and most of the crazy saves. Now...who knows...
It is a real shame because when he is on his is a difference maker. Sadly he has been a difference maker the last two games the other way.

Goalies are always weird. Kind of like relief pitchers. They can be great and then sometimes just seem to lose it.

Thing with Mason is he is a good goalie. Just not one of those elite guys in my opinion.

Could Mase fetch us a mid - late 1st rounder?
- arichardson22

Last year might have been the year to move Mason. Teams like Edmonton, Carolina, Buffalo and the Stars were goalie searching. Buffalo could still maybe be looking depending on the Lehner injury but I am not sure what teams are in the market this year. So I don't think you'll get what teams got last year.

Thanks Bill. I hate shootouts. Let's just extend the OT period, and rule out the skills contest. I would have played Bellemare the entire OT period; last night he was a beast. I hope that the shot that he had blocked during the PK didn't cause his ankle to balloon up. Imagine if the team looses him for another couple of games.
I feel bad for Mason. He gave up one questionable goal, but the others he was getting very little support on.
At least Gudas will be coming back, and if Schenn returns early, I can hope a little. Sorry, I just read what I wrote, and I am starting to regret that. But, it is what it is.
I would also bring forward McD back, along with Cuz. But, I guess we can't have too many over priced players trapped in the minors...lol.
Next game......

Very true but last year we were saying ah finally we found our franchise goalie. You may be right about Buffalo this year, I remember there were talks that they were interested in Neuvirth (again) after his hot start

That's probably a little high. I would think a 2nd round pick. But also is the money saved by moving him worth it next season. $1.5 should be able to get you an average goalie n the UFA market, like say Montoya. That's a saving of $2.6 mil. Get a little cap relief at a few other positions and the Flyers could bring in some veteran help for a 2nd scoring line like for example Boedker.

Goalies have good years and bad years...best to just stay the course with one who is physically capable of being elite/ish

I don't know what FA the Flyers might be able to get. I would love to get a winger for the top 2 lines. But he can't be too old. Maybe Lucic. I would love Boedker.

And I know this won't be a popular opinion but I wouldn't mind adding some toughness to the lineup. Maybe a young player like Zack Kassian or Matt Martin if they are available. Unless Goulbourne is ready to take an NHL role. I just feel they lack some toughness in their game.

These lines would be better than what we had last night.

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-BSchenn
Laughton-Bellemare-Simmonds
VdV-White-Umberger

Chris VandeVelde is not good enough to play 14 minutes on the 3rd line in the NHL. This ain't the NCAA, Hak.

I would love Boedker. Feel he could be a nice compliment for Jake and G. Imo if we were to sign Lucic we'd have no reason to keep Simmonds. Kassian and Martin's toughness would be nice to add for grit

would you trade mason to calagary?
- 2Real

I'd trade any player to any team if the return was good enough. For instance, if it was one of Monahan/Gaudrea/1st, then yes. But just to move him, no.

I am starting to get tired of seeing Raffl and Vandevelde. I would rather almost see Cousins or even Goulbourne in the lineup.

Boedker would be nice, as would Lucic. No interest in Martin/Kassian, as they are more or less thugs, like a poor man's Brian Boyle clones.

Agreed. But Vandevelde is Hak's golden boy, so he's not going anywhere.

You guys completely out played us, and deserved a better fate. Funny to hear another fan base rip Milbury, he has to have naked photos of someone to even have that job, he has no talent knowledge, (see Luongo and Olli Jokinen for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha) or (then drafting Ricky D so he could pass on Heatley or Gaborik) or if you prefer (how about passing on Zach Parise, no islander connection there, for good old Robert Nilsson). So the great talent evaluator gets to rip talent on a regular basis, he has to have something on someone to have that job.
I wouldn't be so quick to throw the towel in on Mason, ton of talent, might be tweaked with something and trying to play through it, and yes having fathered 2 goalies they are quite a unique breed. Hope you guys don't bring that good of a game next time.
Oh and Martin won't be available, and is anything but a thug, if you lead the league in hits, and never get suspended, it means your hits are clean, that's just hockey.

Bennett, that Hamilton bust, and Brodie too. Just naming some of the assets I'd do a deal for.

I guess.

Both these two are just killing me right now. And Raffl keeps getting top minutes. Just let Voracek work through it with Giroux.

I would rather see someone like Martel or Cousins or even Goulbourne. Goulbourne and Martel can also kill penalties.

if you trade mason you have to lock up the other guy for a few more years. if you do that what will it take in terms of years and dollars? he makes 1.5 now, do you go to 3.5? 3 years?

Might as well just keep him, right?
