Haha yeah, market for goalies is so soft, I wouldn't expect that much back.
Might as well just keep him, right? - Tomahawk
I don't know. Would Buffalo move a high pick again for a goalie? Could Calgary make a play and send a pick?
I just put goalies in the same category as relief pitchers. They can be great and then all of a sudden they are just "meh" |

These lines would be better than what we had last night.
Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Couturier-BSchenn
Laughton-Bellemare-Simmonds
VdV-White-Umberger
Chris VandeVelde is not good enough to play 14 minutes on the 3rd line in the NHL. This ain't the NCAA, Hak. - Feanor
The only change I'd make would be to waive Umberger, bring Cousins back up, and put him between VDV and White. He needs an extended look at the NHL and the added bonus would be getting Umberger out of the lineup |

I really don't care who it is.
I am just tired of seeing Vandevelde. I know he is a good soldier. But other then the PK what is he doing? - J35Bacher
VDV would look a lot better without Jake on his line because then you wouldn't be screaming at the tv - why are you two on the same (frank)ing line!? |

Well cap space would be nice.
You're not going get much for him by himself but maybe as an add on. Does Simmonds and Mason as the main pieces get RNH out of Edmonton? |

Homer would've discovered like 7 different loopholes to push Vinny out by now. #RealGM

The 2nd Nielsen goal was a helluva shot. Stoppage yes, but I chalk that up to better offense.
You can make the case to move Mason, but I'll ask: Who do you replace him with? Personally I like our goalie situation. Nothing wrong with having a 1a ans 1b. |

I think it came out yesterday. Something like he is still alive and still not going to play.

if you trade mason you have to lock up the other guy for a few more years. if you do that what will it take in terms of years and dollars? he makes 1.5 now, do you go to 3.5? 3 years? - rinaldo
Neuvirth is a great backup. I would need to see more of him to give him starter money. |

Umberger is better than VandeVelde. He has more points this season in about 40% of the ice time. |

We know the guy is currently distracted by off-ice stuff, tho.
I'd let him work through it. |

I don't know.
Right now I cringe watching raffl and Vandevelde. I would rather see Martel or Cousins or Leier or Goulbourne.
I like when youth is in the lineup. Also those guys can all skate(maybe note cousins as much) and just seem to have better skills then Vandevelde. |

I think Neuvirth signed a two year deal. So if you move Mason you let Nevirth play and then next year you look at the position again. But even if he continues to play well your not going to pay neuvirth as much as mason in the next deals. |

I thought Mason was a bit leaky, myself, but there have been PLENTY of nights where he kept this team in it by himself. Bad nights happen to everyone and this one, frankly, wasn't even that bad, really.
I like our goalies. Let's just leave it like it is. |

Add Laughton in there then. Did you see the return Chiarelli got for Seguin? Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow (he also gave back Peverley and Button to Dallas). That's pretty much what he will get for RNH, probably less so is Simmonds, Laughton, Mason that far off that package? |

I agree as V is a dime a dozen player...cousins is the guy that they need to get a look at....maybe just maybe they don't think cousins is nhl material...t |

So now we should trade Mason? He has had some subpar games this year, but I still have complete confidence in Mason. Not looking to trade him. |

Yes, cause they don't need to expend assets to get a goalie like Mason who is not good enough to be a difference maker on that Oilers team in the next 18 months.
You would need prime Hasek to push the current Edmonton team into a playoff spot. |

I don't know.
I think it is just getting him the right chance. Right now where does it make sense to pay Cousins? As a fourth line center playing about 7 minutes with lack luster talent?
I don't think he is a top 6 player but as guys like Umberger and White and Vandevelde move on then I could see cousins in a bottom 6 roll playing with guys like Laughton, Leier, Martel, Abul-Kubel. |

Vandevelde isn't the problem. He's a good 4th line winger and pker. The problem is that he's being played 15 minutes a night and with Voracek. That's just about talent availability. That line had a strong game last night on the forecheck. The problem is he's not a finisher and doesn't have the offensive instincts to jump in holes to give Voracek options nor does he play any kind of give and go game. Neither does Bellemare. Both are straight ahead N/S players |
