No way do I want to see Laughton sent down. I don't care if he's getting 8-10 minutes, he never projected to be more than a 3rd line center anyway. He's practicing with NHLers and he's learning how to play at this level right now.

Not sure where the idea came from that Laughton never projected to be more than a 3rd line center. I assure you the Flyers didn't draft him in the first round thinking he was a 3rd line center |

He has also been statistically one of their worst forwards in possession and defense |

I think that, were he given more ice time, he may improve. Hard to get going when you're only playing every 7th/8th shift. Not saying he will, just that he might. |

He's noticeable for a few things: his speed which he doesn't use remotely enough, a surprisingly good quick shot, and his playing perhaps the worst forward defense on the team. Last part befuddles me more than anything given he had shutdown center projections. He's actually been scary bad defensively. I've said it before: I'd like to see him playing with defensively responsible wingers or else put him on the wing elsewhere. He just seems lost. - Mononoke
Didnt see you wrote this before I commented, but yes I agree completely. Astute observation |

Nah, Vinny is lower!
I personally think they need to find the kid some more icetime. I still think he's going to be a really solid player. |

Not going to deny that....but I dont think Hakstol should just give him ice time. He is getting pretty much the amount of ice time he deserves right now |

I think it's a catch 22 situation. It's very hard to get into a rhythm and get something going when you getting low icetime and going long stretches between shifts at times. I think it's a combination of both. |

That's kind of a catch 22. He is only getting 7-10 minutes a night with White and Umberger and before that Cousins and McDonald.
I would prefer him getting more of Vandeveldes minutes. I know what Vandevelde is. I need to see laughton with more minutes and better situations. In the beginning of the year his line of Read and Simmonds was playing well together. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the wing with Bellemare and Voracek if they are keeping Voracek there. |

Makes sense...I just think it would be different if the other lines (and entire team) weren't playing well right now. It was easier to say he should be getting more ice time then |

I agree, on merit, it's understandable why his ice time is low,

I would definitely rather have him play with Voracek than VV...I think most people would agree that is the most ideal scenario, but the perception of Laughton is better than the play of Laughton right now.
I guess I am in the minority, but I really dont care about VV-PEB-Jake. They are playing well, albeit not scoring a ton, but the process is okay and the 3 lines that are in some way dangerous has proven to be a positive to the team. VV is the lightning rod due to his perceived ceiling as a player, which I dont deny, but I dont have a problem with rewarding guys who have done everything that has been asked and more 30% of the way through the season |

I understand rewarding but I need to see what I have for the future. Vandevelde I don't see as my future. Laughton can be and I need to see that.

The Flyers aren't in that mode right now. They're trying to win and make the playoffs. Maybe later in the season, depending on how it plays out, that might change some. |

An NHL scout at the Phantoms game against Providence a couple weeks ago said if there was a redraft now of the one in June, Myers would probably go late second round. So, yes, he is a legit contributor. - bmeltzer
always wonder why teams wouldnt take a shot with a 7th rd pick on a guy like that...or high risk or obscure euros |

true...he was considered a prodigy in the MTHL and came into the OHL with very high expectations. The Flyers are loaded in the middle so in essence that's the onlt fit right now....3rd or 4th line...that may change here or somewhere else. He has a boat load of skill, but is still just learning the game...Pinnacio's article about this being a make or break season for the kid may have been the biggest load of "I have no idea of what i'm talking about" I have ever read. He may be better off with a more offensive role in the AHL for now....but I hope he develops up in Philly. |

You act like I am trying to bring every prospect up.
I know they are trying to win.
But I also am playing one of my best offensive players with a solid role player(Bellemare) and a 4th line winger. There's no harm in getting my 1st round pick an opportunity on the wing with bellemare and voracek right now. |
