If Montreal is going all in for Drouin and giving up substantial assets it will get even more ugly if he does not produce a quick result. |

Most people only say Bergevin needs to shake up the roster.
I assume the same is going on in Ottawa? |

God no! Most Ottawa fans wish the Sens were doing better but see them as a very young team with great prospects that is still a few years away.
Listening to Monteal fans it sounds like it is hair on fire everyday. Crazy panic. |

Smaller skilled teams have trouble scoring in the latter stages of the season, as bigger teams start to play closer to playoff style hockey, a style that cannot be played the entire season, so as they ramp up the physicality when fore checking and in their defensive zone, smaller skilled players have less ice, less time, and start to get hit a lot harder as the season winds to an end.
If Montreal loses tonight, perhaps there will be a coaching change sooner rather than later, as the Habs don't play again until Saturday ............ that's enough time off for someone to come in and try to shake things up. |

Montreal has benefited from outstanding coaching and goaltending. I do not think changing the coach or the return of Price will reverse the trend. You are right, in the second half everything gets a lot harder. The Canadiens are physically challenged, they don't score very often. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand their challenge. |

I included the Senators in that post. Watching the games in California, you see how much smaller, on average, teams like Ottawa and Montreal are compared to (at least those three) teams in the Western Conference. At least that what it seemed like, visually to me. I'm sure there is someone who can dig up the stats comparing teams by average weight and height. |

There have been a few articles I read recently talking about how much better the Canadiens "Puck Possession" 5 vs 5 stats have improved over last year. In fact the"Plekanec Line" was touted as the best 5 vs 5 Puck Possession line in the NHL, and the columnist went on to say that having great Puck Possession numbers 5 vs 5 is useless, if you can't score goals.

But some people here swear by these advanced stats, and Puck Possession in particular, as a true indication on how good a team is, dispute winning games they should not have, goaltenders stealing games, and lucky bounces.
Last time I looked, the standing are based on points, and not Puck Possession stats. |

Wasn't the Plecanic line, it was the Pacioretty-Plekanec-Gallagher line.

" Lastly, Corsi for percentage (CF%) encompasses both offence and defence, so it can be used as a proxy for puck possession and give us a rough idea which way the ice is slanted when a given collection of players are skating together.
The Habs line, unsurprisingly, leads the way in this category as well, with the Stars’ star-studded group not far behind." |

shooting the puck matters... nothing is 100%.. there are always outliers
Last time I looked the NHLs point system was horrible.
Vancouver has 19 wins in 47 games, Colorado has 23 wins in 47 games. they are tied with 49 points

So you left out the 2 better players on the line ..no surprise
I dont see what the problem is, thats a good line.
http://www.torontosun.com...l-forward-line-of-2015-16
THE VERDICT
If you want to go by strictly goals-scored, the Blackhawks trio of Kane, Panarin and Amisinov is the best of the bunch. They have been excellent at producing offence and are difficult to contain between the other team’s goal and blue lines.
However, if we’re talking full body of work — which, by the way, we are — Pacioretty, Plekanec and Gallagher offer more. That 72 GF% probably tips the balance in their favour.
this is important. and I see why you left our the whole link to the article... you cherry picked some points
according to the writer.. that line has the best goals for % .. so they score more goals when on the Ice. |

Was just recalling the article I read yesterday, and listened to it being talked about today on A couple of sport talk stations.
The gist of the matter is that all stats, include your Holy advance stats, don't tell the whole story, and are open to interpretation, depending on what you're trying to find or prove.
But I understand that you've drank the kool aid and pray four times a day to the advance stats, because you've tried everything else (to make the leafs look good) and this is the flavour of the day.
Not too many teams firing their scouting staffs, ending prospect interviews ect, and depending solely on advanced stats.
Sure they're another tool, but not held up to be the god of hockey knowledge that you seem to think it is.
Let me ask you this. Which team do you think is the better team, the one with, let's say a 1.034 PDO, or the one with a 0.976 PDO?

Since you were not paying attention, when the leafs were one of the worst possession teams and still hovering around a playoff team under Randy Carlyle I was one of the ones calling them out on being a poopty team.
can't answer your PDO question... not enough info
