I like how the Sixers are last in the league in turnovers, 26th in the league in assists, don't have a point guard, and it's the people who don't "watch the games" who don't understand why they are terrible.
Maybe we know exactly why they are terrible: the incompetent GM didn't get them a point guard after trading the one he had. Let's start there.
Down 35-14 after the first. All part of the plan |

Nobody wants them to sign mediocre players to awful contracts -- absolutely not.
But it's far too easy to give the guy who is acquiring and drafting projects and players, then trading the players he acquires and drafts because they don't fit "the plan" a pass.
I don't care how many Glenn Robinsons and Nik Stauskas and the like Hinkie cycles through. But you don't get to lose and lose and lose, then say, well, it's because I am cycling through players I draft and acquire -- because you are the guy who is supposed to be identifying the players who FIT the plan. - AllInForFlyers
Now this I agree wholeheartedly with. I was on board with them moving MCW for the Lakers pick, but didn't like the MCW pick the night it happened. But at some point, some progress has to be visible. And to me, that's the rest of this season and the draft. If they come out of draft lottery with say the #4 pick, the Lakers keep their pick, and the Heat and Thunder picks are in the late 20s then this could be a colossal failure. A lot hinges on that Lakers pick for me. |

See, MCW is where I started to question -- his shot was always broken. There was never a time when you evaluated him that it wasn't broken. But you still drafted him. Then you trade him because, among other things, his shot is broken?
With no replacement? All in for Russell, but no dice there, so you go into the season with Marshall injured?
I'm sorry. That's straight-up hope-and-prayer management that skews into incompetence. It's not that you can't trade MCW. But you drafted him knowing all of his weaknesses and still haven't truly replaced the things he did do well -- I don't know if Marshall is the answer, but I don't think he is. He gets his shot to prove me wrong |

Hi. I have watched professional sports, with my employment being based on professional sports, for parts of 30 years.
I know that the Sixers don't have a point guard. I know the Sixers knew they didn't have a point guard after they traded Michael Carter-Williams, and they have now gone from that point forward and through an entire offseason without adding a starting caliber point guard.
That's called professional incompetence.
You can pretend that you know more about the NBA than everybody here. But you don't. The Sixers have one win because of gross mismanagement and incompetence, not because you are backing a plan in which you don't know -- and cannot definitively state -- that you know will be successful.
You know how I know you can't? Because you have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER when that team is going to win more than 30 games.
You have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER who they are going to draft this spring. Because you wanted them to draft D'Angelo Russell last year, and that's who they wanted to draft, and it didn't happen.
Be smug in losing if you want. But don't delude yourself into thinking that you know more about the Sixers than everyone else just because you are comfortable with them losing. - AllInForFlyers
If said party actually did know more than everyone else, said party would've chosen a different response, and actually proven that to be the case, focusing on the team and the actual issues, rather than focusing on those offering opinions on the Sixers situation.

You mean, post players need guards to help them develop?

I heard that somewhere, but don't quote me on that because Sam Hinkie didn't say it and we clearly don't know anything

I dislike tanking, but I understand-to an extent-what Hinkie is doing.
The NBA truly is a league where one superstar player can lift a team from lottery to contention, and not having that superstar turns you into the Atlanta Hawks, make the playoffs every year, win a round every couple years, never really contend. Hinkie is losing because that's the best way to get a shot at that franchise guy. He's dumping solid guys and stockpiling picks because without the star, the solid guys just make you mediocre.
I'd rather see leagues do away with their current lottery, and do a league wide one. Maybe give lesser teams a slightly better chance at top pick, but you could really put the kibosh on teams doing what the Sixers are doing & what others did, in the past.
I'm not sure that Colangelo is anything more than an effort by the league to spank the Sixers for being so blatant. And despite the plan, Hinkie has really done little to provide help for the good kids who should be the foundations of the future |

That might be a development in the "new" NBA, because they've re-invented the game of basketball in 2015.

MCW stinks and hes been benched. Drafting Embiid was 100% the right pick. If he can play, he will dominate, his skill set for a big man is worth the risk that he doesnt play.
EDIT
Chances that you draft an allstar in the top 5 are about 40%. Outside the top 10, theyre infinitesimal. Its horrible going through this process, but id rather take this approach than wandering the mid level wasteland for a decade |

If he can play, he might dominate, and it might set the Sixers up. If he doesn't play, it's going to set the Sixers back. The Sixers need guards, and shooters. It's a perimeter 3 point game.

I acknowledged the pg thing was a bad move by Hinkie. Even Hinkie acknowledged it was a mistake. To call him incompetent based on the nightmare he inherited is a bit much. If you were going into this season expecting them to make any kind of leap then I don't know what to tell ya. That was never really a possibility.
I know they've won 1 game, but I think they'll just end the season as a regular bad team. The injuries have hurt. They have no depth, so when Marshall wasn't ready for the season, the drop off was dramatic.
I just think people are overreacting to a team that was supposed to be really bad and is, instead, awful.
Also, fwiw, I'm sorry if you thought my post was directed at you. It wasn't. |

Generally it's been guys who are waiver eligible. So rookies with limited or no NHL experience are automatically exempt. |

same goes for the flyers wouldn't you rather tank and get a crosby, ovechkin, stamkos, kane and win the cup? ovechkin hasn't won it yet but just wait |

In the NBA, the light is the possibility of finding a superstar. Once you get one, things materialize quickly. |
