I dislike tanking, but I understand-to an extent-what Hinkie is doing.
The NBA truly is a league where one superstar player can lift a team from lottery to contention, and not having that superstar turns you into the Atlanta Hawks, make the playoffs every year, win a round every couple years, never really contend. Hinkie is losing because that's the best way to get a shot at that franchise guy. He's dumping solid guys and stockpiling picks because without the star, the solid guys just make you mediocre.
I'd rather see leagues do away with their current lottery, and do a league wide one. Maybe give lesser teams a slightly better chance at top pick, but you could really put the kibosh on teams doing what the Sixers are doing & what others did, in the past.
I'm not sure that Colangelo is anything more than an effort by the league to spank the Sixers for being so blatant. And despite the plan, Hinkie has really done little to provide help for the good kids who should be the foundations of the future - Jsaquella
I don't really like basketball all that much. I root for the Sixers because they are a philly team. I'm thankfully I don't like BB because if the Flyers were as bad as the Sixers and for as long as they have been bad, I think I would have lost my mind.
I do get that BB is the one sport where a superstar makes all the difference in the world and the overall level of talent is meh so ripping it apart and starting over had to be done but doesn't it go to say you have to start showing improvement? One pick has missed 2 seasons, one is in Europe and who knows if he will ever come over.....to think this organization went from Wilt, to Doc/Moses, to Barkley to AI to this dreck. sad |

I acknowledged the pg thing was a bad move by Hinkie. Even Hinkie acknowledged it was a mistake. To call him incompetent based on the nightmare he inherited is a bit much. If you were going into this season expecting them to make any kind of leap then I don't know what to tell ya. That was never really a possibility.
I know they've won 1 game, but I think they'll just end the season as a regular bad team. The injuries have hurt. They have no depth, so when Marshall wasn't ready for the season, the drop off was dramatic.
I just think people are overreacting to a team that was supposed to be really bad and is, instead, awful.
Also, fwiw, I'm sorry if you thought my post was directed at you. It wasn't. - PhillySportsGuy
You know what? I'm being a Richard, and it's because I'm in a foul mood about just how awful they are, and I'm just tired of them being awful.
I knew they were going to be terrible this year. You are correct. It's just frustrating because nothing should take this long and still be this bad.
I was never on board with tanking -- we all know that. I think they've tried to play the games the right way, with the lack of a PG killing them.
But I am just not on board with the failure to just let these kids lose and lose like this. I'm just not. I can't be.

In the NBA, the light is the possibility of finding a superstar. Once you get one, things materialize quickly. - PhillySportsGuy
Well, they might be batting 0-3 so far. Let's hope they get one, and things materialize quickly.

At least now we think they're trying to lose on purpose. But when they traded Moses, drafted guys like Christian Welp & Shawn Bradley, they were supposedly trying to win...ugh |

They should have brought in a couple good solid vets, to lead the way. The manner in which they lose, even with some close games, isn't really teaching the youngsters anything but how to lose |

Even drafting a mediocre player, is better than one who will never play. Money and cap aside. The entire organization is a mess. Drafting a guard who can't shoot and then trading him because he can't shoot. Drafting Embiid, who has more question marks about him than just his physical health. There's questions of his attitude, and following his rehab direction. Okafor getting into multiple off court incidents. On and on, and on.

That 2 on 1 with schenn and giroux then they even get the follow up chance which ends up with mdz shooting it into niemi's chest |

I don't even know WTF to do about it, now. Do you let Hinkie make the picks?
Colangelo has never been wired like that -- that dude has always been hands-on. He's older now, but that dude is a basketball lifer. I don't know that he's gonna let Hinkie drive the bus. He's just never been that guy

Believe me, it frustrates me watching them too. Seeing them not understand the most basic defensive concepts like how to defend an out of bounds play under their own basket is so frustrating. But the ultimate goal is to find that superstar. Once they get him, they have the assets to turn weaknesses into strengths. There is also no correlation between losing early as a kid and never developing. Just about every star player begins his career on a terrible team.
This will be the first offseason where the team doesn't have a heavy incentive to be terrible. Not saying they go crazy, but I think this is the last Trust The Process™ season. I think that was the case before Colangelo came aboard. |

I've said it before, but I think MDZ-Gudas can be a thing even when the Flyers are good
Not the top pair, obviously, and preferably the third pair
But I do think they could survive the transition |

Jury is still out on Embiid. Okafor still has potential too. All you need is 1 though. Go 1/8 for all I care. As long as you get him, you're set |
