Hypothetically what could happen if you offer sheet and got RJ for 7 mil. They get the first second third, then you could turn around and trade a guy like Bo for Vatanen or someone - VANTEL
Ya it seems like Bo/McCann would be overkill up the middle with RJ, I see your point. Who do we keep out of those two? My vote is Bo, looks to be better two-way guy. |

McCann has more natural offensive ability but Bo is a more complete player (at this time at least). It would be a very tough choice. Frankly, I wouldn't want to give up either of them - they're just getting their feet wet in the NHL |

I Would not offer sheet this year.
Our pick will be top 5.
If we were contending, i would consider it (with a lower ranked pick), but it smells of the Kessel for Seguin scenario at this point. - dbot
an OS is 2017 draft not 2016 |

Trade up to 1st overall(somehow) and get Matthews. Screw OS on RJ. OS a Dman like Jones. Don't want to give up a 1st 2nd 3rd? why the hell not. All 3 players may never be as good as the dman we OS and would be lucky that all 3 add up to him when they develop. |

I am in favor of doing it for a d-man, actually. In fact I suggested OS Jones earlier in this thread. |

I think for the right D-man (Jones would be ideal) it makes sense to give up McCann. Were deep up the middle. I also think Nashville is old up the middle and that's what it might take. |

I don't see the point in blowing your wad for a guy who could be past his prime by the time the rest of the team becomes a contender. There's going to be a few lean years ahead of us before we can start puffing our chests out, again. IMHO. - Marwood
I know its bleak chances (and off the course of the plan anyway), but I am imagining it would be a lot of fun to have Stamkos as Vrbata's replacement on the weak side of the PP. A few more PP goals this year and the team would be contending for a division title this season |

C'mon.
If you're not even trying to sign a player of Stamkos' ilk in the offseason, you're crazy.
Do i think we'd have a chance? no.
Do i think we should if we could? absolutely.
Do i think he would improve our team immeasurably, providing a 1C, scoring machine and superstar to build around? i do. |

While all the teams bottleneck and wait for an answer from Stamkos, the other hot UFAs get scooped up |

Contending for a division title is different than being any good. Everyone knows the Pacific is poop this year. The team has been in 2nd all season and been garbage, adding a few more PP goals and maybe the team has a few more wins instead of OTL's |

I was more referring to his comment on how he would make us a contender, as in my view we currently have 2 maybe 3 nhl defensemen on our roster which is of much more concern. At 9 mil per year, I don't think were in a position to justify the move. |

They have that nice negotiating period now, so not much of a chance you'll lose out waiting for others. I think checking in would be worth it given his skill and stature, but also keeping in mind his interest in them likely isn't very high so to prioritize accordingly |

Fair enough but there would be little else to get remotely excited about. |

if there is any sort of interest, chance, opportunity to get him, how do you not take a run at a ufa of his ilk who just turned 26?
might be easier to attract a ufa dman with a better lineup
I dont' think we have much of a chance at him but you leave no stone un turned. |

Definitely true. But it doesn't leave much cap space, as I'm sure he will get 9 or 10 mil. |

Burrows has to be moved by the end off the off season. I am not sure if there are any cap strapped teams that would want him, but a team with lots of cap space would likely appreciate his actual salary of 3smil.
And with pending ufa's Prust, Vrbata and Hamhuis, JB should be able to make it work. |
