My experience with french fries on a sandwich leads me to agree with you. It didn't really take anything away, as it tasted fine, but was completely unnecessary and simply made the sandwich harder to eat.

just blend your food if you're so (frank)ing impatient that you just want to mix it all together and get it in you and over with.

just put it in a blender and drink that poop.

besides, good fries should be enjoyed on their own because it's so rare that you come across the perfectly executed batch of fries. when the magic finally happens it didn't happen so you could jam it into your poorly executed burger.
