Bill,
I know it might be hard to predict but out of the goalie prospects we have who do you think has the best chance to be a number one in the future. - J35Bacher
Follow-up: Do you see Merrick Madsen as a legit NHL prospect, or is he an ECHL/AL ceiling projection? |

Stolarz or Sandström. Love what Madsen is doing this season -- and he seems like a hell of a good guy who is most certainly very bright -- but he has a lot of work needed. Tomek has been hurt all year, so there's no chance yet to track progress. I've never seen Fedotov play but I suspect, like most of the mega-sized goalies, he's extremely raw at his age.

He's been sensational at Harvard this year, so clearly there's progress. He and Tomek both looked very raw at development camp in July while working with Robinson and Dillabaugh. Sandström was by far the most polished relative to his age and when he was drafted.
Of the three Harvard goalies the Flyers drafted in the past -- all of whom played professionally -- Dov Grumet-Morris has, by far, had the best pro career and even he never played in the NHL.
It's very hard to say to right now how much further Madsen will progress. I'd have never predicted he'd be so lights out so far this year after only appearing in one game as a freshman and based on development camp. However, the one thing that was obvious was how driven he is and how eager he is to improve. He has good size and some tools, so we'll see. |

Thanks, Bill. Your in-depth knowledge of Flyers' prospects is second to none outside of the scouting department itself. I feel like guys like Madsen get left off the radar a lot because of the sexier players like Stolarz/Sandstrom as well as his draft round. |

He was extremely talented at appearing near the top of a list that was sorted alphabetically by first name. |

Thanks Bill,
One last question.
Are their any college Fa that might intrigue the Flyers this year? I know sometimes they lose out because they can't guarantee immediate playing time like some teams do, but I think this year they could as they could waive a player like Vandevelde or Manning if they needed to entice someone.
I know Veasley is the top one but I think it's either Nashville or Toronto for him.
Thanks again |

Not in the threads here -- we have mostly hockey diehards here -- but the newspaper comment threads/Facebook group/call-in show crowd has been all over Mason and virtually annointing Neuvirth the second coming of Dominik Hasek. It's been over-the-top on both sides. My view in terms of two players competing is that things have a way of working themselves out. - bmeltzer
I see. Since I'm out of market, the newspaper and radio are things I don't see/hear, and I avoid the FB nonsense. |

Yeah, it was either at the TDL or right around it. They traded a second round pick which was used to draft TJ Brennan (egg on Buffalo's face for passing on PK Subban). |

Biomorphed. My word of the day.
Medvedev just needs to stop that wrap-around to no one, cut back on a turnover or two.
The Flyers have more points (in 2 more games) than the Pens?

Yeah.
I think he is a nice guy to have as a 6/7 type. He can play if needed. Once the vets start moving he's not a bad guy to have around when the prospects start filtering in. |

One of Mason or Neuvirth will be traded by next year's deadline. - 3flyerkids
Very possible it could be sooner. If Stolarz continues to have an excellent AHL season they may consider the next step for him for next year. |

I'd prefer he get into some NHL action this year before anointing him NHL backup ready for next year. If he isn't ready, and our starter gets injured long-term (a month+), it could sink our season. |

IMHO it would have to be a conditional 5th to get it done, tbh. |
