That Stone post you asked me about last night was not aimed in your direction, even though it quoted you.

Yes - we're good NOW. Root NOW.

I don't want to hear about a few vets who are underperforming. I don't care whether some think our young guys are not everything they should be.

I look at the fact that a group of cast-offs leftovers and teenagers, almost all of them strangers to one another came together under a brand new second choice head coach, learned a new system, and figured out how to play together against most of the leagues toughest teams. And instead of being devastated and confused, we get a week of vacation and Holidays with the family within striking range of the post season.

And to prove that we not only survived but improved through it all, yesterday the Death Star rolled in and we (frank)ing beat them. The Chicago Black Hawks left Buffalo yesterday knowing they stole that game, that the Sabres outplayed and out chanced them over the course of 65 minutes.

I know this team is going to do exciting things in the coming months and I'm certain this team will make the playoffs this spring. Go ahead, bookmark it, prepare yourselves to flaunt this in my cyber face at the end of the season. Tell me if we were really good we "would have found a way to win." I'll tell you I'm going through the window, whetting my whistle, and watching the goddamn World Series.

We're good NOW! ROOT NOW!!

- Der Kaiser

One interesting trend this year is other teams praising our improvement even after beating us. Chicago certainly isn't the first team to steal a W against this team. At a certain point the majority of those L's will turn to wins. Will it be too little too late? Depends on how we start the new year. 3-1-1 in the last 5. It seems like this team is a 4 game win streak away from being taken seriously.

I have no opinion on the ranking.

It's just that were not talking about about anything remotely related to Star Wars. Except, maybe movies.

Maybe not you, but there a few others that were, like, for example, the poster I responded to. But whatever you say, thread leader.

I'm curious, what character in Star Wars is named Bromden?

I see there are some serious hockey discussions and some very good posts this morning, so I will try not to drag down the quality of this tread. I will leave that for the Bills game.

This team does have potential. There is a lot of skill and a lot of hard working players. But they have shown to be consistently inconsistent. On offense, in goal, on defense and with effort.

I have no doubt that the collection of these players has the skill and ability to make the playoffs. But it would take all the important pieces to play the way we expected at the start of the year. It would take us becoming consistent performers early enough that we can dig out from the hole we are digging with losses against the worse teams in the league.

I do expect Eichel to have an epiphany at some point before the end of the season. I do expect Ennis to be good again. I do think having Pysyk back will improve things. But Moulson and Gionta may as well be brought out back and made into glue. Goaltending is very inconsistent and may get worse when Lehner returns. Defense is up and down and scoring is a problem. Too many inconsistencies to overcome.

Being jaded from 37 years of Buffalo fandome. I am not getting my hopes up for a playoff run this season, but I will be pleasantly surprised if it happens and look forward to being proven wrong. But we are just too up and down.

If they don't make the playoffs next year, then I will personally fund the creation of a Tim Murray statue, I will put it outside the arena, and chop its head off. E5

Except he didn't do it singlehandedly

In fact, Im just now starting to think you're just looking for something to be upset about or to use to get other people upset.

I'm simply playing the game here.

edit - and yes, yes he did.

4 different times I think I counted that he gave the puck away on that single power play.

Jack Eichel is so lazy... that he hired Ted as a body double to sign autographs and give post-game interviews.

I didn't say he wasn't a problem, but he wasn't the ONLY problem. O'Reilly giving Toews a clean break, Kane taking low percentage shots, Ristolainen passing on high percentage chances.

When a powerplay fails that badly it's usually because there is no organization and no real strategy in place, that's what it looked like out there.

First post, been reading for a long time...I promise to be nicer than HardHat and as delightfully argumentative as Maximum Signal.

Question: Did anyone think that we were going to magically become a consistent force in the NHL? Did Jack age 3 years this summer? Has any NHL team repeated a last place start, even made the playoffs the next year (probably, but I'd be willing to bet most don't)?

Everyone agrees they are much better. So what RoR, Kane and Jack did for me was make the Sabres much more enjoyable. The Detroit game was a tough loss...it has been a long time since the Sabres elicited any emotion out of a loss other than utter acceptance. Reinhart looks to be the real deal and same with Jack despite what I feel are just endurance issues (the most easily fixable problem to have IMO). Kane may not be the 40 goal scorer we all dreamed of, but damn can that boy skate and hit. I'm very happy with the team and when guys like Bailey, Baptiste and Thor (Fasching) start coming into their own, they will be replacing very replaceable players. Thanks for the good reads folks, and may I pray...never stop arguing.
