To be clear, I wasn't speculating about whether or not he wants to be here. I was only commenting on the belief that he is likely to go to Toronto. - Slump Buster
Gotcha
Even with Stamkos I don't think the Leafs are a playoff team, so I kinda do hope he goes there.
We'll still kick their butts |

Sure, but you just don't see guys returning to Toronto in specific and their hometowns in general. - Slump Buster
In 2 of the last 3 Free agency's they have signed a home town player |

I'd rather move Eichel or ROR to the wing than Stamkos. In fact, I'd be cool with moving Jack to the wing today. - Zschalberg
Hmm
Idk about that.
Maybe Eichel on the wing short term wouldn't be a bad idea, but I see him as our #1 center long term.
But even if he did become a winger for us,
It's hard to see how we can fit Stamkos under our Cap without having to lose too many young guys we will have to give raises to |

Stamkos would only be an option as a Free Agent IMO. Sabres don't have the assets to pull off the deal without undoing everything the rebuild has done to date. - Zschalberg
That makes sense
But it also seems like if we did sign Stamkos, we'd eventually lose some of those assets we wouldn't wanna trade bc we won't be able to afford everyone under the Cap |

I went through the numbers on the last page, you'd lose some pieces for sure and kind of do what Chicago is doing. Keep the core intact and just try to roll new guys in the bottom half of the roster |

Well the idea there is those guys end up becoming a product of the system so you can get away with bringing in players on the cheap. It's actually a pretty good idea but you are betting big on your core. |

No,thanks to Stamkos...
Too expensive to acquire in assets exchanged and then pay over the course of the contract. The result is you become too top heavy with all you eggs in one basket. Not to mention the timeline is a bit off...his game starts on the downside as the rest of the team is gearing up. Not crazy off, but slightly off where the window is closed a bit too fast for my liking. The length of contract will also be too long so you are stuck with him in the out years, unless Pegula's Mafia takes him out.
I would rather go to battle rolling 4 lines and have gamers populating the top 6. I don't need 1 100pt guy...would rather have a better distribution across the top 6 and even 9.
That said, I would like to get a certified sniper capable of 40g and 25a.
Moral of the story..Pegula needs a Mafia to deal with these superstar contracts in the out years.
Terry!!!!! Wake up...get 'er done...call Patty Kane, he has some local contacts you can use! |

Stamkos is one of those few players where, if you have a realistic opportunity to get him (and I don't think they do), you move things around to make it work. - buffalofan19
No one here has noticed his drop off in performance since the severe leg injury. I am not as sold as everyone else. I would have a team of the best doctors go over him before any deal is done.

Believe it or not, with the Spurgeon signing today, the Wild are in a sort of a sticky cap situation. Garth suggests we could get J. Brodin at LD, and it may not be completely crazy. He seems to have fallen down the pairings. |

He's on a team friendly though, even if they've bumped him down to 2nd pairing. Probably move Koivu or Vanek before him. |

I mentioned this before and was severely scolded for it. Look at Stamko's numbers before the injury. He had three 82 game seasons each scoring in the 90 pts range. Then came the lock out and with it a 48 game season where if it were 82 he would have scored over 100 pts that year. Then he had the injury and came back last year playing all 82 games for 72 pts, and now this season he is on pace to be in the 60's. Now, obviously there may be other variables to account into this, but the numbers don't lie, his production is down a lot since his injury.

I watch a lot of bolt games and a good reason why his points are down a bit is because they are a better team
his ice time is down to around 20 minutes per game instead of 22 and with more talent, others are netting goals on pp as well |

I don't understand how his production even matters really
Eichel & O'Reilly are our top2 centers
Where would Stamkos fit if he were to come here? |

Oops, forgot to set my roster for this week. Have a couple guys with only one game. Hopefully I'll get away with it. The person I'm playing has 1365.5 less points than I do thus far.
Tied for first. Healthy 540 point lead over the "3rd" first place team and down by 66 on the "1st" first place team.
How's everyone else? |

Eichel may be tired. In the Chicago game he played like he was. - justsaying
It doesn't bode well for him if he is. We're only what, 35 games into the season? He's 19 and led the field or was right at the top in most categories at the combine and by all accounts he's a gym rat. So there's something seriously wrong if he's physically tired at this point.
Mental fatigue is another thing altogether. It's been a crazy year for him, so maybe he needs a little breather, but I'm going to say it again. He's 19 years old. Think about what kind of pressure you had when you were 19. This kid's being labeled as the savior of the franchise/city. That's a lot for anyone; let alone a 19 year old kid who should be thinking about the girl(or guy, no judgements here) that sits next to him in Intro to Psych, or where he's going to get his beer this weekend.
He's playing like a supremely talented kid with his first taste of the NHL. Shows flashes of absolute brilliance, probably tries to do a little too much by himself, and looks a little lost at times when teams key in on him with some of the greatest athletes in the world. This is about what I expected from him. I expected a few more assists sure, but that's not all on him, we can't find anyone to bury his at times flawless setups, so I can see why he sometimes chooses to keep it.
His shot is out of this world. it explodes off his stick, and it's accurate, but he doesn't always shoot from the right place.
He has speed to burn, but sometimes hesitates for a split-second and that's enough to negate it.
If by this time next year he's still repeating the same mistakes then we can be worried. Until then, sit back and enjoy the ride... |

Slowly creeping into the playoffs, still pissed about two of the 3 losses, still can't afford to lose another game. |

To compare a 4 day combine to 34 NHL games is a bit ridiculous. He's playing 3 games a week at a speed and level he has never experienced before.
