Thanks Carol. I just want to mention the young boy in the pic with Hamhuis is a student in my class. Very good story about him in the Chilliwack times. Way to go Antino!!! - Bakwas
That's awesome - thanks for letting us know!
Antino's introduction during the "Hammer's Heroes" segment at the arena last night was very impressive. He really does a lot to give back to the community at just seven years old.

Interesting to see that Hamhuis wasn't expected for the meet and greet due to his injury. Good on him for making it to the rink. |

Hamhuis is looking pretty good. It is difficult to do much with your jaw wired shut, hard to keep up your strength and energy. Difficult to drink stuff through a straw, protein shakes are usually a supplement to a diet, not the main course.
I had mentioned on here at the end of summer that my son had jaw surgery, but didn't actually have his jaw wired shut. the doctor had warned him not to do anything too physical for 6 weeks, he ended up going for a bike ride at around the 5 week mark and took a spill and suffered a concussion. Not sure if he got dizzy while biking or it was some sand on the road where he went down, but it takes some time to get your sh!t together after jaw surgery as people often lose 10lbs or more while on a restrictive diet. |

Chiarelli touted Kassian alot in his BOS days would not be shocked if they take the risk...and a risk it will be.
So tough to make trades nowadays...would be nice for something to happen. I know Ek has absolutely no clue what happens on the trade market but it would be nice if we could dump Vrbata to the Habs...Burrows as well. - LordHumungous
I don't really see the risk if you're not giving up much of anything to get him. You park him on the farm and make him earn his way up. If he doesn't, let him go, no harm. But if he does you have a talented but stupid player that you got for next to nothing. |

Why would Mtl want Scrivens?
I say Mtl sweetens the pot and trys to pry Yak out of Edm.
Or
gets Edmonton to sweeten the pot to take Ferrence off their hands. |

Edmonton with their lack of leadership/structure seems an odd fit to take that gamble imo.
On a contender (like Mtl even) i can see that argument. |

Maybe Price is going to be on the shelf a little longer and Mtl wants other options beyond Tokarski and Condon?
Either way, it would be nice to see some trades, player movement... get the dominoes to start falling. |

Seems like their must be better options than Scrivens is all i'm saying.
...for example, can i interest you in Miller??
But yes, it would be nice to see some trades.
Damn parity. |

Price might be out for a while and their back ups suck
MTL doesn't need to take back a bad salary. Kassian is a RFA in 6 months on a cheap contract |

No matter where he ends up, I doubt he gets back to the NHL this season. Edmonton's farm is no worse than any one else's. |

I am not sure why anyone would be expecting good things from a lazy player coming off 6 months of rehab. |

I don't disagree. All I'm saying is that I don't see any risk in moving next to nothing for a guy to play on the farm who, if the stars align, might be able to play in the NHL a season from now. |

If you're interested in a little bonus reading, head on over to Canucks Army and take a trip down memory lane with me while I lay out the reasons why I'm not a member of Tank Nation.

Trading Trevor Linden was, IMO, the most important trade in Canucks history as it laid a path for landing that 2nd overall pick to acquire Daniel, it formed 1/3 of the WCE and it brought Luongo to town.

Good read Carol. Very close to my thoughts as well. I'd still like to see the Canucks target a Dman in the draft if they can't get that elusive RFA. |

I read your article earlier on the CA post . I know where you are coming from but don't agree with everything. I am sure you expected that from a poster like myself
The game is changing. I was watching a program earlier where they were talking about the planning of sports teams. They said before team managers spent 20 years in the sport and then became managers and GMs of teams. Now team management are developed from 4 years of analytics from Harvard and Yale.
They talked about how the Dodgers had no chance at the World Series but set themselves up nicely for future years of Challenging for the Title.
I enjoyed last year's regular season team but realized after the playoffs , all we did was put money in Aquilinnis pocket. We didn't move UFAs at TDL and we hung onto expired players like Higgins and Burrows. We got caught up in the same mindset of finishing in the middle again.
We were due for a turnover in 2012 and started it 3 years later. Again I see your dedication to being competitive but it is the slow boat to China . If we started 3 years ago and let go of old players we could have already had some good draft picks to be in the running for players like Dougie Hamilton Travis Hamonic and Ryan Johansen.
As I have said poop or get off the pot. The Canucks and Aquillini like to read the whole newspaper while the are dumping. |

It's like playing nothing but red/black on the roulette table. Even if you win, you probably won't win big, but you're not going to lose much either. |

I don't gamble. I played for a few minutes and few dollars in Vegas on both trips for fun . Other than the one hour of fun , I make a habit of not gambling |

I agree on that part.
The risk is Chiarelli and his rep 'if' Kassian ends up making him look like an idiot. It's all good and fine to get your act together in the AHL but in the show it's a different story.
EDM has been through enough crap since 2006 I'm not sure they would want another issue if Kassian decides to pull another brain fart once he makes it back to the NHL.
There is always some form of risk involved when it comes to rehabbing players. |
