I thought he is still injured?
To me not sure why Gagner isn't playing over Umberger. Or Cousins over Umberger for that matter.
The best RJ can do is have a net neutral effect. - flyer_nutter
Umberger has actually strung together a few solid games. Gagner had all but disappeared by the time he got hurt. He's a one dimensional guy and he wasn't doing that great at that. |

I quite surprised Gagner wasn't just waived. Kind of seems like the logical move to me. - hereticpride
We know the Flyers don't want to play Lecavalier. Waiving and demoting a forward would leave Lecavalier as the 13th forward. Activating Streit would give the Flyers 8 defenseman. Really don't need to carry 8 defenseman. |

Umberger is a better all around player than Gagner is. Cousins is better playing high minutes in the AHL, than he is playing low minutes on the Flyers. I love the HB terms such as net neutral. |

well then the GM made a mistake then by waiving porter if that is his belief. could have waived others who you knew wouldnt get claimed.
no you can use drewiskie as that is what he was signed for more than likely. hell you still have andy mac
spending time and development for manning is there job. at some point you cut the cord. if he truly believes he has an nhl future in a top 6 role. then yes he wont waive him. - rinaldo
Drewiskie isn't as good as Manning. Obviously they feel Manning is better suited to their plans than MacDonald is, as well. Maybe they feel Manning can still get better.
Sometimes you have to make decisions even if the outcome of the choice isn't one that you like. They knew Porter could be claimed, but felt that Laughton had earned the slot and deserved to make the team. They'll do the same to Manning if they decide that he'll end up odd man out when Streit returns.
That doesn't mean they're going to rush to do it. Maybe Hextall is finalizing a trade to send Luke Schenn to Boston. If that happens, no reason to risk Manning to waivers. Problem solved. Hell, they may well decide to send Gostisbehere down, and avoid waivers on anyone. |

drewiskie is better than manning; he was signed for a different role than manning. correct they feel that way it looks like and yes they probably feel he can get better. Doesn't mean he will. manning is so irrelevant really.
well if hextall liked porter that much than he made a mistake as he had other options to waive. they know anyone can be claimed. if he was mad or the like than that's on him is all I am saying.

Porter was signed to play for the Phantoms, to add a veteran presence, and to add NHL depth for a call up. He knew the minute he signed him that he would need to be exposed to waivers, due to his waiver status. |

It just simply means that Hextall hasn't wanted to repeat the risk he took with Porter with Manning, even if he has other options to fill the role. That's all.
He lost a serviceable player in Porter, wasn't happy about it, even though he knew waiving him was risking losing him. He may well decide to take the same risk with Manning. It doesn't mean he's happy to lose him on waivers.
Not sure why it's a mistake or what it has to do with Hextall being reluctant to risk a guy on waivers. |

I don't think it is a mistake at all dime a dozen call up....
I was just saying you think he is gun shy about losing guys on waivers for nothing. if that is true than shouldn't have waived porter and waived someone else is all. imo there is no risk in waiving a guy like porter. none. you have plenty of other options to use short term as porter would never be any long term answer in all likelihood anyway. |

Just watching replays of the goals from last night..the 3rd goal given up by Mason is pretty horrible.
You could even make the case that the 4th goal wasnt a great shot but it was a break away so fine but that 3rd goal.

I'm not really saying he's gunshy. I'm saying that he's exploring all options and using waivers as a last resort. I'm using his stated disappointment in losing Porter on waivers as an example of why I think he'd rather not use waivers. That's all.
Not saying Porter was viewed as a long term answer. Not saying Manning is irreplaceable. Simply pointing out that Hextall was disappointed that Porter was claimed and that it might be a factor in his reluctance to waive Manning. |

Mason himself said the 3rd goal was bad, and I think Bill was dead on when he said while you can't really blame a goalie for not stopping a 2 on 0, it would have been a huge momentum stop that kept the game in reach. Mason was excellent for two periods last night, but the two he allowed in the third were troublesome/ |

If the Flyers were going to waive a player to make room for activating Streit, it would've needed to happen today. It takes 24 hours for a player to clear waivers if I'm not mistaken. - MJL
Why would he have to clear waivers in order to come off the cap? Whether he is claimed or demoted it still comes off the books |
