i can't see any team (but particularly the yotes) doing the hawks a favor by taking back bickell in a trade deadline sell-off. - Tumbleweed
Why not? They have plenty of Cap room and are technically in a rebuild. If taking Bickell, even for just the rest of this year, lands them more prospects / picks, then they are actually the team TO do it. |

Bickell probably won't/wouldn't be included, so this is way off (too high). The teams have talked, my info is Bickell would probably go back to Rockford in order for the Hawks to absorb the cap hit this year. - John Jaeckel
again - that's my point. i can't see the yotes taking bickell back becasue the price would be astronomical.
a 1st and prospect would be very good return to the yotes for boedker straight up. |

Speaking of prospects Schmaltz looked more engaged, today at the WJC, than I ever saw him in the USHL, that was a handful of times. He even pushed back once, didn't think he had that in him.
He was noticeable IMO during the 1-0 US loss to the Swedes, who will win Gold. |

cap is never an issue for the yotes.
actual money is. cash is king for a team that is bleeding money and staring at potentially significant relocation costs.
i think the only type of contract dumps the yotes would be open to are i) insurance covered permanent LTIR players and ii) somewhat useful players whose actual salary is less than their cap hit.
edit: and it's not just this year, next year too. |

Relocating to downtown Phoenix from Glendale is not that costly.
edit: But seriously, look what they did with the Pronger situation. Paying a guy just to get Cap compliant, and getting zip zero on ice production in return. At least Bickell would take an occasional shift. |

Legal costs? The lease agreement was renegotiated last summer.... I believe they only are obligated to play there one more year. |

plenty of legal costs will be incurred in the move
my understanding of pronger's contract is that it is covered by insurance; so costs the yotes nothing.
even if it isn't, his actual salary is only is only $500k over the next couple years. |

new lease negotiation for the start of 2017 would be the big one ... where ever that is going to be. |

That could be true... his Cap hit vs. what they actually pay may be different and beneficial to the team. |

Well if the rumors are true, the Suns and Coyotes will be building a SotA facility on the current land where Talking Stick Resort Arena sits downtown... not sure how long that would take. I am sure Glendale would take any revenue they could get between now and then, as they are completely screwed once the Coyotes leave the Westgate area. |

I wouldn't call it an exaggeration. Like JJ said, 97 points barely got the Hawks into the playoffs. If I'm not mistaken, the Hawks making the playoffs that season hinged on the outcome of a Dallas/Minnesota game - a day after the Hawks played game #82.
Then there was that problem with spotting the 'Nucks the first three games of the Conference Quaterfinals... |

2015 Cup winners: Blackhawks 102 pts
2014 Kings 100 pts
2012 Kings 95 pts
2011 Bruins 103 pts
2009 Penguins 99 pts
I guess its all in each individual's perspective of what is good and what is not. |

Well even though the Hawks lost that series it was fun watching the Canuck fans squirm with each Hawk win.

IMO Boedker is a rental to the Yotes. He probably will not re-sign as a UFA (he is not Vermette or Michalek - looking for a pre-retirement retirement) as he is a young player.
- Mahoney wants value for players he will lose. Proves it year after year.
- The Yotes do not need to take Bickell here. The Hawks simply need to make the cap space for Boedker. Yotes could simply eat some of Boedker's salary this year and the Hawks could make him fit WITHOUT serious waiver moves (other than Bickell).
- What would getting Austin Matthews do for that franchise? If there is a year the Yotes need to be sellers it would be this year. They may be in 2nd but they are only 5 points from last place in the Pacific and 8 away from last overall.
Boedker probably goes somewhere - obviously a very nice fit here but the Hawks may have to outbid some others for him. Not as great a market for LWs as D men.
I wonder if Nik Grossman could be had in the same package? One would assume he is another name Mahoney will move - UFA after the season but has a LTD NTC. |

How much would that prospective change if Dallas would have actually won that game the day after the Hawks concluded their season, and the Hawks would have not made the playoffs at all?
Even going into that series with the 'Nucks, the Hawks still had the likes of Pisani, Turco, and John Scott on the team. The blueline featured a worn out Boynton and Culimore. There was a very green Marcus Kruger, who had less than 10 games of NHL playing experience in North America under his belt before the playoffs started. Beyond Toews, Ryan Johnson was all Q had to lean on to take critical draws.
...and without the heroics of Ben Smith scoring a couple of critical goals, the Hawks would have been finished and series would have been done in 4, maybe 5 games.
You can cite point comparisons all you want. It still doesn't change the fact that the '10-'11 team was not geared to go all the way. |

It was fun because there was a passionate fan base here that rivaled the size of the Hawks fan base. |
