Defencmen typically just take longer. Continuing to take forwards in the first round is Einstiens definition of insanity: doing the same thing and expecting different results.

The Canucks depth on the wing is just as bad as their defense, I like the Boeser pick.

I don't know, he's projected top five and he's a big body, he could surprise and make it after a few years. Regardless, you take the BPA.
- LeftCoaster

He had high ratings at number two at the start of the year, I think by the end of the year he will be ranked 8-12

Our D on the farm is not as bad as people think. Look at Pedan Hutton and Biega this year. We have Tryamkin Subban Brisebois and may Neill waiting in the wings also.

Our NHL D sucks but the farm is not as horrible as some think

- VANTEL

Pedan has had one bad game, one good game so far. Looks like an AHL dman to me. Biega, admittedly, looks like a gamer. Subban, Trymakin and Brisbois all look like maybe's to me

Sbisa had tons of bad games last year. This year he is our saviour.

He didn't have a bad game he had about three bad shifts tonight. Name one Dman tonight that didn't have three bad shifts.

Not says me

Chychrun was cut by team Canada jr team, not an NHL team , an all star jr team.

That says a lot of hockey experts ( not me ) feel he is not ready .

In the 3rd round or below. Hedman, Trouba, Ristolinen, Weber, Seabrook, Suter, Jones, Ekblad, Doughty, Josi, Karlsson, OEL, SUbban all have one thing in common:1st round picks.
- neem55

I believe PK Subban, Roman Josi and Shea Weber were second round picks. Duncan Keith was a 2nd rounder. Nick Lidstrom was also a third rounder.

Your telling me things I know. My point is you don't draft a top 10 player that will be ready in 4 years. You can do that later on and get a comparable
- VANTEL

I get what you're saying, but I think that you draft BPA and give them however long it takes to develop. Ideally it's less, but sometimes it's more. That's just the way it goes when you're dealing with human beings.

There are a lot of things that Benning has done that I find questionable, but I absolutely trust his drafting.

No, I' saying it's pretty rare to find a later round comparible, so I do think I am telling you something you are not acknowledging. Name your top ten d-men in the NHL. I bet 1 maybe 2 are not 1st rounders. I'm talking about a #1 or 2 guy, you might not think there is one in this draft, but I really don't think that's true as there has been a few in every draft for the past many years.

Yup . If we had been developing properly the last couple of years JM and JV would still be in JR .

There is no Weber Suter Doughty Ekblad Dman like that this year.

There is not even a Sanhiem or Fluery this year. Not yet anyways.

Seems your right, Subban and josi were second round. Weber was 6th overall though. Kieth is an outlier, you and I both know that. The best odds for a good d-man are if you draft them in 1st round, this is my point.

Exactly and that is why JV and JM are on the team earlier than they should be

Weber was sixth overall? That's pretty incorrect.

I know what your saying, and agree, if the BPA is a defenceman.

And Shea Weber was taken in the 2nd round 49th overall, look it up.

How is Linden Vey working out for you guys? I was upset when the Kings traded him. I was hoping him Toffoli and Weal were going to be really good for us.

Again, for me this is a says you comment. Chychrun was the concensus #2 of McKenzie and many others, this tells me he is pretty darn good. Suter wasn't guy drafted top five like Ekblad or Doughty. He was drafted 7th, but didn't have hype like those two and is a stud. NObody really knows how these guys will shake down in the show till they get here, that's the bottom line, but more 1st rounders make it than any other (obviously) thus I think we should be picking d in the first round this year and next as we havent done so for over a decade.

I'd argue that more defencemen drafted after the first round have made the NHL versus those drafted in the first round.

True enough, I looked it up and thought it said 6th, but looked again. But who is the last dman we picked in the 2nd round even? BPA is great, but how is that working for the oilers?
