I've also been beating this drum. I'd love to see him play a bigger role in the overall offensive scheme. He's playing the role asked of him very well right now, but I think he's got a lot more to offer than they're currently asking of him.

I think he has a ton more to offer. Moulson is still getting PP time, as is gionta. Taking shots at the PP might be a bit misguided, it has been streaky but overall very good this season.

However a PP goal last night changes the complexion of that game. A guy who gets dirty and can finish is something you need to beat a goalie like holtby.

That's a pretty young inexperienced line. 50/50 chance I guess.

Im not that hot on him, his rebound control still leaves much to be desired. He does seem to make these huge ridiculous saves when the team needs it most though.

If the plan is to have ullmark in the A to continue his adjustment, then extend him for maybe 2 years. I think he is too good for that, and this was supposed to be that adjustment season for him.

Forget about the fact that i dont like the trade, i am pissed about our G situation because this is probably a lost season for lehner. We are already in for another year of question marks at the position because of this.

johnson is 18th in nhl in save%
16th in gaa

ullmark and makarov are not ready to be a semi regular starting goalie in the nhl

I am confused why nobody wants to extend johnson

I think girgensons could play on the RW with kane and eichel. Or move kane up with oreilly and reinhart. Mcginn back to the 3rd line and put girgensons on the LW with eichel and ennis.

I'm not against the idea altogether. I just don't think a multi year deal is a good idea.

I believe next season ullmark is probably ready for backup duties full time, especially if he goes back to rocha and leads them to the playoffs. I am not against extending johnson, i think he has done a very nice job this season.

I do think 3 years is a little much.

I would love to see canada lose today, and on new years eve to the swedes. Send them packing.

That won't be enough. Top 4 seeds in each group make it now. No more byes. Denmark is assured of last place.

I would not be mad about it.

It would force ullmark to play his way onto the roster.

There's no way Chad Johnson is getting more than his current 1.3m on his next contract. He's a backup, he'll get backup money. It's also ironic how quickly people forget that he's been fairly inconsistent, with many ups and downs.

Teams are doing a really good job of clogging up the neutral zone. If you watch any game in the league right now, most games look very much like ours did last night. Instead of games being played in the ends, the majority of them seem to be getting played in the neutral zone. The look of them is starting to get very much back to the neutral zone trap games of the early 2000s.
- HonkFortheGoose

I've been noticing this too. I don't know how they;d get back to it but it would be refreshing to see the NHL go back to the way it was in the mid 2000's. Not only because the Sabres were good then but because games were a lot more exciting. More goals were scored and the puck was in the ends a lot longer. Those Ottawa Buffalo match ups where you'd have a mix of physicality and skill seem like a distant, distant past.

Thinking about the girgensons convo from earlier that i missed out on..

While he has been good in his role minus offensive production, you dont spend 14th overall picks on players that show the capability of playing in the NHL at 19, and showed at 20 that he has some finish in his game to "groom" him into a third line shut down center role.

I have wanted him on eichels wing since the beginning of the season. Let larsson play 3rd line center and legwand 4th. Its frustrating as hell that a guy who scored 15g in 61 games at 20 years of age cant even get on the 2nd PP unit. And yet we have gionta shooting what, 3% getting that ice time.

- ieetbred

He needs to score more. Bottom line. Being one of the worst productive players in the league offensively isn't acceptable. Same with Larsson.

The lack of scoring from those 2 and Moulson is a big reason our record is what it is. Defensively sound or not, they are top 9 forwards

He was pretty inconsistent the first month of the season, maybe a bit longer. Since the team has tightened up and gelled a bit he has been stellar.

Lehner is going nowhere and ullmark need time in the A. Whether thats this season and/or next we have no idea what lehner is going to provide and will need a backup who has shown the ability that he can carry the load at an average or better rate for extended periods of time.

same save % as rask, quick and dubnyk

save gaa as fleury, rinne rask and dubnyk

same number of games as many on this list, or within 10%

no chance he makes the same or less next year
