No, in the case of the situation in the post you quoted, it does not stay intact.

Can't believe players like Umberger and Vinny don't get the hint
- Winning

Umberger can at least play a competent bottom-6 role if needed. He's worlds better than he was last year, not that it's saying much. Vinny is shot.

We've confirmed that Umberger has a NMC and his NTC is 10-teams. Full details: http://www.generalfanager.com/players/1558

- PhillySportsGuy

having a NMC and a limited NTC (10 teams he cannot be traded to) makes no sense to me. I mean, a NMC means no movement at all, no? so how can he be traded?

It means that he can be traded to any of those 10 teams, but he cannot be waived/demoted.

It may be different in different years of the contract.

That trade was bad enough, this makes it 10x worse.

From link:

"NMC and full NTC for 2012-13 and 2013-14; NMC and modified NTC in 2014-15 through 2016-17 (player submits a list of 10 teams to which he cannot be traded, list can be modified each year between March 15 and June 15)."

So there's a NMC for the duration of his deal.

Well then yeah, since he has a NMC for the whole length of the deal, the NTC seems unnecessary.

That's how I understand it, but it is the CBA we're talking about.

It sucks but what can you do? Ideally Lecavalier would retire or decide to terminate. I don't know that he will and honestly the cap penalties are not harsh enough for me to refuse a buy out.

$6.3mm in cap hits for guys buried in the AHL. A guy with a $4.5mm cap hit that only plays when they literally have no other choice. Another $4.5mm guy who is basically a 4th liner.

- Jsaquella

Exactly-- I understand if it was just one or two guys, with Gagner coming off the books at season's end. But if Wheels is determined not to go, and you are leaving MacDonald where he is, I mean, come on. The difference between the cap hits you buried and aren't playing is enough to offset a buyout total and get you a player or have the roster slot for trade

MacDonald, you can't buy out. And you shouldn't buy out both Wheels and Umberger. But I honestly feel that making this team better can happen with a buyout of one, because sunk cost says you are paying out the money anyway. You might as well use it on a player who is helping you, when you get past the worst of the penalty

When you're playing like Umberger, you don't really have to worry about getting traded, but being sent to the AHL to ride buses is a real concern

It's all individually negotiated. There can be a window during the year when the NMC is void, and there is a limited NTC in place instead. Without seeing the exact SPC, sometimes the info is vague.

If Andy Mac got a season ending injury could the flyers call him up and out him on long term injured list?
