What teams dont want the extra year? With how important the draft is becoming, I think teams are not as willing to give up high picks for rentals
- YuenglingJagr

You may think that but I don't think it correlates with reality. Hanzal fetched a 1st last year. Kimmo cost the Hawks two 2nds. The Habs gave up a 2nd and later pick for Petry. The Kings gave up a 1st for Sekera.

If you moved Mason in that deal who is your starter?

Please dont tell me people are willing to anoint a 27 year old that has played on 4 different teams who has , prior to this season, a career .910 Save % and a 2.98 GAA as your starter.

I would much sooner move Nuevirth. I would still dangle him to Yotes and see what I could get. If they could do Nuevy and BSchenn for Perlini and a 2nd or 3rd I'd be all over it.

Vermette

But there are examples of both sides. Pominville and St Louis. Teams that are up against the cap or have several important pieces to resign would obviously not do it

I dont think an extra year will limit a return, it will just limit the number of teams able to make a trade. If a team can fit his salary (Id be open to retaining salary), they could be willing to give up more knowing he will be an asset for longer than a couple months
- YuenglingJagr

Are teams allowed to structure how they retain salary? Like we retain the max for Streit for next year but the year after that the percentage drops, 50% one year, 25% the next? Something like that. Could attract a few more teams with short term cap issues.

No, it has to remain the same every year.

I just don't see the same in players as you do. Also I think Boedker is a winger that be great with Couturier or Giroux and brings speed and skill to the lineup.

My thinking:
Mason FA after next season. I don't think he is worth what he will probably be asking for.
I don't think Mason is that great. He is good, not great.
Goalies usually don't get much but when a team is desperate like AZ then maybe you can get a solid asset.
If they say no, oh well, you keep him and move forward.

- J35Bacher

Goaltending is a far more important position than wing is. I don't think Mason is great either, but that has very little to do with it. Mason is a pretty good goalie, that the Flyers should keep. As far as great, what makes Boedker so great? What makes Boedker worth what he's going to get, as a UFA?

It seems like you just want them to make a trade to make a trade. Let's start the goalie carousel all over again.

I don't believe they can do that. It has to be the same percentage all the way throughout.

You know I was listening to the radio this morning and they were doing nothing but praise the Eagles for releasing him and in the way they did. They also called the Eagles a doormat franchise in the NFL.

I have heard from sources that their record is 6-9, which looks a lot like the sex number

WHy does the carousel have to start? You let Neuvirth play and run with it. I don't agree that letting Neuvirth run with it is starting the carousel all over. Neuvirth isn't like getting a retread Boucher or career minor leaguer like Leighton. All honesty they should have just run with Bobrovsky during that year.

I just don't subscribe to the theory that Neuvirth can't play this way for more then 15 games. How did Mason win his job here? He played well at the end of the season and once Bryz was moved he won the job from Emery the next season.

And maybe Boedker isn't the guy. I like his game and think he would really flourish here. I like his skill set. But even then, if the coyotes are so desperate like Maloney has said then you try to get a premium. Get a 1st rounder and Perlini. Or prospects like Henrik Samuelsson or Chrsitian Dvorak.
