Latta shouldn't have tried to start with Deslauriers.
Good lesson for him and the NHL.
Don't start with the Sabres, or you'll get a beat down! |

Apparently Latta and the rest of the Cap's don't have access to replay. Clean hit. Nothing to see here. |

Kaleta would add immediate value to a contending team's roster.

gotta admit, I don't see that when looking at the replay, I see a forearm/glove to the face/upper chest area. If you're calling that, it's a roughing minor at best, if it didn't catch his face, it's never called.

Watch again. It was a clean hit, then later the stick hits him in face accidentally. That's all. Caps players were yelling at he elbowed him but he didn't. |

It's in the follow through. Watch the last replay. Walton said it was a stick to the face, and Williams said it as well. How did it not catch his face when he was bleeding from his face?
I'm not trying to start a debate, the hit was clean, but Deslaurier got Williams in the face with his blade when Williams was going down to the ice. Technically, a high stick, but it's a bit wishy-washy, and I'm certainly not advocating a blown call. Just stating what happened. |

Okay, did I ever say it was an elbow? I'm not a Caps player, contrary to popular belief. Accidentally or not, it's technically a high stick. You must be in control of your stick at all times, with the only exception being granted on follow throughs from shots.
Again, I don't give two poops that the high stick wasn't called though. It happened fast and refs miss poop. It's kind of a weird call to make anyway. |

I didn't pay attention to the follow through, so I'll take a look at that later. If that's the case, I could see the gripe.

lol WOW! It was NOT high stick at all. Look again seriously. He hits him cleanly...it was his LEFT hand. The stick is on his RIGHT hand. It never hits him in face when he checked him. He was fine until his ass was on the ice, that's when the blade of stick hits him in the face WHILE HE WAS ON THE GROUND. That is NOT definition of HIGH STICK. Just an unfortunate thing. |

Not arguing that his stick, on the follow through as he was falling, clip Williams face, but how can you call a "high" stick when sed stick wasn't anywhere higher than knee level? Most likely why it wasn't called. Just an unfortunate play really. |

Sounds like a Caps fan here just female doging to female dog. The stick was what no higher than Nic's knee period, the ONLY reason it hit Williams in the face was because the hit and both players lost their footing so the stick hit Williams on accident period. You dont see Nic doing a Marty Mcsorley do you? No you see a accident happen as apart of a HOCKEY PLAY.
Anyways Sorry but Kaleta NO. He needs to retire. He has has been busted up too many times, its time for him to walk away from the game. Plus all his negatives around hockey sorry I just dont want that in the game anymore. I loved his work ethic but too many times he has done stupid things during the hockey game to get himself suspended. |

Well, high stick doesn't just get called if the stick is high. it's when you don't control your stick. Again, not a big deal...i don't care that it wasn't called, but that is technically a high stick. Like I said though, I can see why they didn't call it. |

From the rule book;
"Players must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion, or accidental contact on the opposing center who is bent over during the course of a face-off. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly. "
It's a high stick, technically. One I said about 3 times now I can see why they didn't call. |

One could argue that he was, in fact, in control of his stick, and they way that Williams fell just happened to have his face clipped. It's subjective, really, and thus neither you nor I can say the call should have gone one way or the other. I hear what you are saying, and while you can say that DLo's stick was out of control, I could argue that point. It's a moot point really, and with the way he fell, I wouldn't have been surprised to see a roughing call, same two minutes in the box. But, it wasn't, and as a result a more entertaining game ensued. |

He definitely got hit in the mouth. You're right it's wishy-washy, and I'm surprised Deslauries didn't get a penalty. |

Yeah, the book doesn't really address that particular issue. Because it's none of those things. Above who's shoulders? The offending player? Then it's definitely not. The offended player? Then it definitely is. It's vaguely worded. It's not a high stick in the spirit of the rule. The word "high" is key there. It's not "high" if the guys face is only 2 feet off the ice. It's a situation that rarely happens, so there's really no rule in place for it. |

I stand by what I said. It was 100% a clean hit and in the aftermath a stick catches his face. Mr. Caps fan, you need to make up your mind. One minute you say you're ok with the hit and the next you're quoting the rule book. While we're on the topic, care to discuss Ovi's hit on Gorges? |

No he's not. We're all just having a conversation/healthy debate about a hockey play from a couple of nights ago. No biggie. |
