I agree JB stands pat with regards to buying and selling, unless it's that perfect deal every GM in the NHL wants. He's more enamored with finding the perfect fit with the youngsters. Poor asset management. - VanHockeyGuy
As opposed to what? Making a trade for the sake of making a trade?
I totally agree that the team should sell of its assets however, if theres no market theres not a whole hell of a lot he can do...
With such hot commodities as:
Vrbata
Burrows
Higgins
Hamhuis*
Miller*
i don't see much action in the future. |

If ya can't get crap all for em then get what ya can, enjoy the cap relief, call more farm kids , draft well and spend the fat stack of available cap space on new faces in free agency .

As an outsider I dunno if you should be bashing the leafs oilers or any Canadian team really ...I like both their teams moving forward more than the nucks ...if this season goes well prospect wise that can change but right now the high end skill pieces just aren't there yet in van - Redmile247
Its not hard to say that leafs and Oilers have better prospects than the nucks, it comes with losing...
Im assuming you understand how drafting works. |

I was gonna say......
Rs average draft spit for10 yrs has been #3.
Toronto is #8
The fact that these teams aren't utterly killing everybody, speaks volumes as to how bad their management has been. |

[Burrows salary is 3 mill next yr, the final of his contract
For a non cap team he could be a nice add. |

was just pointing out to one of the Canucks fans on here that poking fun at other teams might not be the best thing to do right now ... |

Sure, but at what return, a 2nd or 3rd?
If that's the case, whats the rush.
Furthermore, what's more valuable?
The 2/3rd pick with the historically low likelihood of success or the invaluable experience and development a playoff round can do for the likes of Bo (was our best guy last April), McCann, Hutton, Markstrom etc.

When we were winning, we were always getting poked, we are losing and still getting poked. What difference does it really make? |

What a joke if true. This team is bottom 5 in the league when everyone plays the games in hand. Not like trading the 5 UFAs we have will make any major difference to our playoff chances.
On another note how good are those 2 finish dudes playing. Any of those top 5 guys looking good right now. - mauryballstein
How cool would it be if JB could land 2 top 5 picks and grab those 2 Finnish bucks (ala Burkie). |

(frank) that. If we have 2 top 5, I want Chycerun. Think a more mobile and meaner version of Ekblad. |

The more 2nd and 3rds u have the better chance they are a bit. If none of our 2nd-7ths make it, we better gut the front office |

I was thinking Islanders or Nashville |
|
|

meddling ownership was the root problem with the leafs for the better part of the last 10 years or so.
as an outsider, i see aquilini as the type of meddler that leads a team down the path of perpetual mediocrity. - Tumbleweed
Yup

Whether the Canucks continue to lose by keeping assets instead of selling OR selling assets and building for the future, its all the same steaming pile of stool. I have said it once and I will say it again, a big middle finger goes to Francesco Aquilini and Canuck ownership for being money hungry a$$holes and now allowing management to do a true rebuild. SELL NOW and get this team going in the right and proper direction instead of this non-sense. - Codes1087

Can we compare apples to apples? Probably the fairest team to comparare us with is Boston. Both competitive at the same time for roughly the same period. Maybe SJ.
I'm not sure what he's trying to point out. |

No doubt, but then again half this board goes up in panic and agony if Benning gets anything less then a boatload of 1sts for our cast-offs
Kassian and Lack style. |

Nothing......I will say it again " Nothing " will get this team into the playoffs this year ! Bank all the assets you can, free up some cheap roster spots and save some cap money. |

BTW. Demko was a 2nd. Probably a top 3 if not #1 goaltending prospect in the sport.
Hutton was #5
