If Im picking out TM's worst moves I don't think I get to any of the trades.
Moulson contract and the seemingly wasted three 2nd rounders from the 2014 draft are the two that really bother me. - Sabresfan-365
Gorges trade? Thoughts on that |

Indifferent. They gave up a 2nd rounder, but he's been serviceable despite playing above what he's actually capable of. |

We needed Moulson to be at least a shadow of his former self and he's not even that. He's trying out there but he just doesn't have what it takes and I don't see that changing for him. Gionta has at least turned it around a bit and is being effective out there. At the end of the day what's killing this team is the dead weight. Too many guys who don't put up points and Mike Webers existence. |

I will make a point that you are calling Stafford a bum and praising McGinn when Stafford has better stats.
I did forget the Miller trade.
I love Eichel, but there are players picked below him that are playing just as well or better, but I do think long term Eichel will have the last laugh. - SabresPanacea

Gorges will be OK on our 3rd pairing within a year or two.
The Moulson contract, WPG trade, and Lehner trade are my big question marks with Murray. O'Reilly deal is a plus, Franson is on a good contract, and I think he's been mediocre at drafting (so far, it's hard to judge)
Either way, the notion that he's a "genius" is unreal to me. |

just cap hit and length of contract still is why I asked, almost 4m for a guy who will not age gracefully with the way he has played his career. |

Last year he sucked.
This year he has been steady-eddy playing alongside Risto.
I'd do it...again especially if he played another year or two for us.
The Sabres, at the time of the trade need to bring in veteran leadership to help speed the development of the younger guys...their contributions can be viewed as 60 off ice, 40% on ice. He isn't a problem yet in terms of his on ice production eroding with age.
Gionta and Moulson on the other hand...their 40% on ice contributions are approaching zero. |

There a lot to consider when looking a Murray's trades, many are still too soon to judge. The tank was absolutely worth it, Eichel is a beast and just because he's not leading the league 35 games into his career doesn't mean he won't be in two years. Stafford resigning, really? He needed to go, his time here was over, he was bum for us just taking a paycheck and a spot.
RoR trade looks like a homerun for Murray, Mcginn turning out to be a quality player is icing on the cake. Yes, it hurts losing Zads, but Compher isn't exactly lighting thing up in college, and nor is Grig playing with some real offensive talent in Colorado.
Kane trade, meh... Bogo stats actually prove, when health he's doing better than Myers and at least he has some snarl. Armia is becoming more of a joke every day, and Lemieux won't play for us, so what are going to do with him. So, far I do feel Winnipeg is still winning on this deal, but it's still early.
I'm not happy about the McNabb trade, too much for D-Lo and Fash, but will have to see how Fashing turns out. If, he doesn't make it to at third line NHLer than we lost big on that trade.
Murray, won on the Miller, Ott trade, many people like to forget that one, but he fleeced St. Louis.
Lehner it's just to early on, the guy needs to play. Right now it's easy to say this is Murray's worst trade, but we need to give Lehner some time and see what we really have in him. If, he turns out to be our next starter for 5 plus seasons than the trade was well worth it.
I will say that I like having a G.M. who is not afraid to pull the trigger. Regeir was great at trades, he always got value, but they were too few and far between when the team could have really used help. - sskkoo1
Pretty good assessment. Love murray. About the worst grade i would give murray is a B+ with a comment of Incomplete. He targeted players he wanted. He is short at a couple key positions, but that will be addressed in the draft, free agency, and possibly the trade route. He moved out players that he didnt think would help us win games when it mattered. If you take a step back and look at how teams are winning cups in the last decade- #1 centers, stud defenseman, scoring across 3 lines, and solid play in net (without spending top dollars on a goalie), and enough size to take a beating when the refs put the whistles away come springtime- we are pretty much exactly on track. Again, see what happens to fix the holes in the offseason.

the one thing you are missing there is building through the draft, teams that have won the cup are not rosters that are put together through Trades and UFA alone, can't win a cup with a D core that are trade and signing off casts.
sabres have some of the major boxes checked off through the draft, but they need to draft better (Avs are in the same boat) if taking the next step to being a consistent playoff team. |

not overly, loved him as a player, but handing over the reigns to MacKinnon is the best thing the franchise could do, no more sheltering him at Wing.
Plus I really like Soderberg as a poor mans replacement. He solid, on pace for 55 pts @ 4.75m. Thats good value for a 2nd line C |

Thats why Hawks are so good and will continue to be good. Sure they have 2-4 hall of famers on that team, but through drafting.
They have to tear down but they have replacements through the draft waiting to plug into those roles and once they become too expense they are shipped out for cap relief and have a new batch of quality guys to fill those depth roles.
They truly are the model to follow |

Very difficult to judge with it being so soon after his first two drafts but he does seem to have an eye for defenseman so far with Guhle, Martin, and Borgen. |
