No there are no more ties. The NHL has gone to shoot outs and 3 on 3 to eliminate ties. They do however hand out loser points, but it is still a loss

No there are no more ties. The NHL has gone to shoot outs and 3 on 3 to eliminate ties. They do however hand out loser points, but it is still a loss

Butt points are still awarded as if they was a tie, so teams play the last half of the 3rd as if to get a tie and then play for an extra point, the extra point is given to the extra frame winner, the tie still gets you a point. Fudged up logic yes. But there is a point given for making it to OT so you can't discount or completely.
It should be a 3 2 1 point format but I'm not butman so I don't make the rules.

Yes NHL hands out points for losing but there hasn't been a tie in the NHL for a decade. In 2005-2006 NHL goes to shoot out format to eliminate ties
