Murray was the guy who chose to ice the worst team in the league last season.
Kept Pysyk down
Traded goalies
Kept Grigo and Armia down who were arguably better than some of the misfits that were here.
Kept Nolan
So the onus is on him to begin with. He then made a bevy of moves to improve the current roster. With those moves we have moved exactly 1 spot in the standings. We aren't scoring very much, and don't get great goaltending.
Yes, there will be more moves made, yes Eichel will get better, as will Reinhart. The question becomes how much better? Is it enough to go from 29th to 1st when it's all said and done? That's where my questions lie. Unfortunately, Murray has left himself with few outs

Very well explained.
I am no Murray sympathizer, but I will give him my best defense.
Everyone agreed that the core was rotten and we needed out with the old and in with the new. Every fan wanted change and Murray did his best to establish a new core by making trades for young talented players. You don't have the luxury of waiting around to see if other players may become available for more reasonable asking prices. Or get lucky in Free Agency. You have to strike when the iron is hot, and when there are other GMs competing against you to trade for the player you have to overpay to get the trade done.
No one could have seen the sudden drop in production from Mo uhh lson and Ennis. They were both able to score the past two years with much worse linemates. Signing Moulson to that contract was not a mistake at the time when you account for his goal production on a bad team, and style of play, he was scoring around the net which is how goals are scored nowadays, and he doesn't take a beating. He is not that old that it should have been expected that his game wpuld fall so far off of what it had been.
If anyone knows Lehner it is Murray, he has seen him play and obviously felt it was in our best interest to acquire him and legwand for that price. Legwand has been a solid defensive player this year, has contributed on the score sheet appropriately considering his minutes, and is a leader and a solid guy in the locker room. And we have not given Lehner a chance to succeed so we should not attack the GM for this trade. Again he overpayed because ottowa didn't want to trade him in the same conference.
As far as anything else Murray has done, he did it to ensure we would get at least Eichel in the last draft. And considering he looks every bit of the generational talent that he was touted and we expected in these past games, I think Tim Murray did the most important part of his job right.
He made sure we got Eichel. He added young talented top line players to the roster. He brought in the best coach that was amenable to coaching here.
But the McNabb trade still sucks, I can't defend that.
