They need to start putting the puck towards the net and just crash and bang. Russia is closing passing lanes and getting in front of everything. Its going to be an ugly one if they get it. |

TSN shows 26 shots for the US. You're down 1 in an elimination game, I gotta think you should have more than that. Russia has 33 according to TSN |

The Russians did a great job clogging the shooting lanes.
For anyone saying the bigger ice surface will open the game more I just don't see it in this game.
If you clog the shooting lanes it doesn't matter how big the ice surface is |

Well that sucks. Russia shut them down the entire game. US needed a dirty goal there, and almost came up with one. Disappointing |

That's good and all but you're supposed to have potential superstars on the ice. Gotta put more shots on net and some of them have to beat even a hot goaltender. |

Disagree there. Goaltending can singlehandedly win tournaments like this. Its part of the reason i thought the US had such a strong chance at gold. |

Yep. The game will always be won in between the hashmarks. Take that away, and the rest of the ice is useless. |

Every team seems to pack all of their players into the area in front of the goal between the hashmarks.
Almost wish they could have a rule like the NBA does for spending over a set amount of time in the lane. |

At this moment it looks like a great chance we come away empty handed. |

If the US doesn't win tomorrow, and they very well might not, it will be 3 straight years without a medal, and 4 out of 5. |

This Drouin situation reminds me a lot of Kyle Turris back in the day. I wanted Turris then, I want Drouin now. Ennis, fine. Girgensons, fine. Not both, but either I'm down. |

It'd be difficult to enforce and would get a lot of pushback but I would be open to hearing more about this idea.
How to fix the NHL in 5 steps:
1. Division games. 6 games against each division opponent. I want to see big games, not Buffalo v St Louis and Ottawa v Colorado. Give me Boston v Toronto 6 times a year. Keep the playoff format so they play even more when the cup is on the line.
2. Make the nets 6 inches wider and make the pads smaller for the goalies. Goalies are huge and making them smaller while the nets bigger is overdue. 1 inch will do nothing, make it a big adjustment.
3. Interference penalties. Call them. All of them. Always. I don't care if it's game 1, game 40, game 82, or the last game of the finals. Call them. Make the refs accountable for it.
4. No coaches challenge. Or at least change it so it doesn't take so long. It gets sent to Toronto and there is a 3 minute maximum. Offside can't be challenged, game is too fluid.
5. One and only 1 winter classic. No stadium series. 1 game outdoors and that's it.
Bonus: Replace the all star game with an alumni game. Must be out of the league for 5 years minimum or 10 years. Let them play a big game while the current players rest. |
