If he expects legit 2nd line money, then trade him. If he's good with under $3m a year, then let him be ROR's sundance kid for years. - nfph
I think he will get between 3 and 3.5 depending on the cap. 4 years at that rate should be enough.

I'd call that an overpayment, but would leave my pitchfork and torches in the shed. |

What is 2nd line and what is 3rd line money these days?
It is so difficult to tell with so many inflated salaries signed during free agency.
I get what you are saying, but with him making essentially $3M now, I cannot see any way he takes less than that with this very likely being the last big deal he receives.
I think his going rate is going start with a 4, and I would actually be OK paying him that for say 2-3 years, but only if Moulson is somehow offloaded before they sign McGinn.
All of that said, if he continues to play well, I would have the discussion with him about wanting to sign him as a UFA before the trade deadline and then see what the highest bidder offers by the deadline and take what they are offering while smiling. |

They could easily do it if they could ship Moulson out of town by free agency.
I have no idea on earth how they accomplish that. |

That is what is kind of weird about it. I think it feels like that because we could finish last and still be very unlikely to get Mathews. - Slump Buster
Kinda like the last 2 years...3rd is a charm |

they have to eat 1/2 of his celery...and add "+" in the form of a prospect for a pick perhaps. With his recent play, he has zero trade value except to a top team that has an injury to their 1st/2nd LWer |

Are they able at the end of the year to start him in Rochester? |

I am not even sure he has much value in that situation, even with his salary being $2.5M instead of $5M. |

Not entirely positive, but I believe burying him in Rochester only saves the team a million which would still leave $4M of his salary on the pro books.
EDIT: I feel really bad talking about a person who is trying to make a living this way. I know it is reality, but it still doesn't feel right. |

Do we know what his modified NTC is? 6 teams, 10, 15? If we eat his celery is that eaten per year? If that's the case we'd still be on the line for 2.5M which is obviously better than 5M. Almost enough to resign McGinn with that money alone. We also have 3 3rd round picks (Buffalo, SJ, St. Louis) so that could hopefully be the plus, even if we have to give them the highest one.
Anaheim, Nashville, Winnipeg, Detroit, Washington, LA, Florida. Those are the teams that would have the cap space and are close enough to the playoffs that they might want a scoring winger. That said, a lot of those teams would want a UFA after the year, not a guy that's 32. Moulson for Jagr straight up. Get it done before the game today and they don't even need to go anywhere. |

Comparable is probably Stafford, and I think that is similar to what he got. |

"Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000"
So yes, he could go to Rochester at any time and could start down there if he goes at the end of the year. We would only save 1M from that on the cap, however. |

yup, why I said 2 years at 3.5 to 4 per year
if his agent balks, move him at deadline and don't look back |

here is my take on McGinn
he is perhaps playing his best hockey ever
going to be 28 years old this summer
wonky back
I would try to sign him on a friendly 2 or 3 year deal, 3.5 to 4 per
if that doesn't work, ship him out by the deadline - homiedclown

new lines today...
Kane - ROR - Skunk
Girgensons - Eichel - McGinn
Moulson - Larsson - Gionta
Legwand - Schaller - Foligno
That top 6 should be fun to see. |

Yea they've all looked very good so far (considering where they were picked). Almost makes up for the disastrous 2nd round in 2014 |

Lemieux sure I'll give you...
but Cornel and Karabacek are solid picks that could turn out very nicely. |
