So, what are we trading for drouin? He might be just the guy to pair up with eichel and girgensons and create an explosive second line.
Im all for it, especially if its a clutterbuck/neitereiter type deal to get it done.
Foligno, 2nd, and maybe a D prospect?

I would be wary of trading for him. I don't know much about his time in Tampa and why he has not shown even the least amount of success, but sometimes busts just happen.
I don't think the Sabres are in any kind of position to trade away dmen prospects.
Edit: "least amount of success" is probably wrong to say. |

the eye-test tells us Gionta isn't what he used to be...Larsson's not scoring but is agitating well...he should really be on the fourth line
and...
just finished Harrington's article...says that the team is overmatched and that the gm needs to fix it..."waiting for the summer is unacceptable"
can somebody please tell my why roster deficiencies need to be addressed now?...especially when the price for acquiring players will be real high at this time of year? - Michael Pachla
I thought harrington was a baseball hack, hes covering hockey now? Meh, someday ill take my son to the museum to show him what "news-papers" were. Its going the right way. Stuff can get fixed in the draft and offseason.

I think if you can trade a bottom 6 roster player and a pick for him you have to take a shot at it. We may not be in the position to trade D prospects but players like foligno can be replaced and probably for cheaper.
4g and 28a in his first nhl season is solid. I dont watch tampa other than when they play the sabres so its hard to have a feel on the type of player he is and how he accumulated those points.
If he is never going to play for the lightning again i think you gotta be in on it. He has the speed and offensive creativity/IQ that is clearly needed on this team. |

Yeah, I added an edit to my post. Did not realize he put up 32 points in his first season. If all it took was a bottom 6 player and a pick, probably worth looking into. But if it is a first round pick in this years draft, I would pass with them currently looking at a top 5 pick.
I think the asking price for him will be high. |

Yea our first this year is out of the question. I would guess a trade doesnt happen now, or even in the near future. The trade deadline could be interesting though.
If he asked for a trade almost two months ago and hasnt been moved, i would guess the asking price is high as well. If things start being hashed out publicly between the two parties, it could go south quickly. |

Why is it out of the question, u add drouin to eichels line in place of gionta and this team ends up outside of the bottom 5. I think it's worth considering at the very least |

Possibly outside of the bottom 5.
Would you rather have Drouin or that Finnish winger, or that top rated dman? Not saying they would get one of them, but something to consider. |

Drouin is farther along and the three guys I want are lottery selections. It's definitely got risk involved but personally with how close the standings are id go for it but I understand the hesitation. |

I suppose im about to make an argument against trading for him at all but if this highly talented player cant play his way onto a roster that has stanley cup aspirations then im not interested in trading a potential top 5 pick for him.
I am also not interested in trading that for a player who is seemingly about to have his and the teams differences played out publicly. Wasnt yzerman just on record saying that this is about getting him playing time? A few days later the agent makes it clear that drouin doesnt even want to play for the organization anymore.
While i agree about getting eichel a player like drouin, if moving the first was essential i would look to something more proven. Even if it required adding pieces. |

We don't have anything to give for Drouin.
And I'm not moving the 16' 1st right now.
Thanks to Murray these conversations become very short |

This was my entire point about the Kane trade too.
Acting like Kane was the only under 25 forward to ever be on the block was ludicrous.
Look, a 20 year old former 3rd overall pick is available, and we have little to offer |

I wonder if Armia, Lemiuex, and the 1st they gave the Jets last year would have been enough to get Drouin. I'm doubtful on that. |

Lemieux and 1st would probably have gotten the deal done, the Tampa fans on here know they wont get a haul for him but a good pick and high prospect is the return they see for him based on what he has done to date |

Disagree on that being enough, especially with that first round pick being middle of the pack, as I meant the 2015 1st they had given the Jets. |

I dont think he ever acted like that. And the guy who is big, hits, skates fast, and has a proven record of scoring goals in the NHL isnt named drouin.
Drouin is a player who had a solid first NHL season, and for whatever reason cant crack the tampa roster. He isnt worth our first rd pick this season IMO, and we agree there.

I think it would be close since they can't take cap back, trying to get Stamkos under contract for next year and then Hedman year after that.
Drouin has lots of potential but even their own fan base are saying the same thing about him, plays small for being that small, not great defensively, needs a change of scenery, suppose to be a Top 6 Winger but hasn't played like one. Shows flashes of offensive skill but hasn't put it all together
Hes current stock is down, and if a team is paying for his potential then thats a very dangerous game to play |

Problem is the Sabres can't afford to do that anymore. They have left themselves little outs to make any mistakes |
