Hey Bill, fellow Flyer fans and stragglers.
What do you think of this trade proposal?
Tampa trades Matt Carle to Philly for AMac or Lecavalier (500k retained on either)
To me this helps both teams. Tampa gets cap space and Philly loses either a longer contract or a useless player. The trade would void Vinny's NMC would it not? He could be demoted for the extra 950k or they can get an equal player in AMac and save a million in cap space. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
I'd do Carle for MacDonald in a heartbeat. Fewer years, slightly more cash, but if they eat the extra $500K it helps.
Just don't see a reason for Tampa to do it. |

I'm not going to criticize anyone who would deal Sanheim in a deal for Drouin. I wouldn't really criticize any deal proposed that I saw that I felt was a realistic proposal or a fair deal. If it's a ridiculous over or underpayment, IMO, I'll call it such.
I really do think it would cost the Flyers one of Simmonds or Sanheim/Morin/Provorov to land Drouin and I'm not willing to go that high. Doesn't mean I'm right, doesn't mean the guy who would include one of those guys is wrong. Just means we disagree.
I kicked it around in my head for awhile, and I'm against it. |

Hey, Leafs, Oilers, Sabres, Blue Jackets!
Problem is with a couple wins, considering they've played the fewest games in the league, they go from 26 to 18. Bottom of standings is like a can of Sedins |

They could drop even lower if they sell sooner than later. Right now they are 7 out of the wild card and 9 out of the third spot in the division. They could very easily go pointless in their next 5 games, which would all but mathematically end their hopes.
Hopefully, if they are dead in the water by the middle of January, Hextall starts the selling. I'd look hard at re-signing Medvedev to a reasonable deal for a year or two, and if there was no common ground, I would shop him and the other two pending UFAs (White & Luke Schenn). If Medvedev re-signed, I'd try to move Streit. If not I would consider hanging onto Streit for the last year of his deal.
I'd also be trying to trade Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Schultz and of course Umberger, Lecavalier & MacDonald. I wouldn't count on moving most of those names.
Bring up kids to fill in. Give Alt, Straka, Cousins maybe even Hagg a look. I'd probably keep Morin down in the AHL because I'm not sold he'd benefit by NHL time right now.
If they can move out a good chunk of names, they'll have cap relief, more picks and or prospects and more options. |

I'm totally fine with most, if not all of that. One of the Russian or Streit should probably go, but I would be fine if both stayed.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's either or that has to go, and if they can keep Medvedev for 2 years under $5mm, maybe there's room to keep both-especially if they can move out money elsewhere (Read, Schultz?).
If I moved one-be it Medvedev or Streit-I'd lean heavy to keeping the other. But I'd be actively shopping a lot of guys. |

Yeah, it's imperative to keep a team that finished 23rd last year and is surging to 27th this year intact and together.
I mean without Bryaden Schenn & Matt Read they'd be...what, 30th?
Right now, the only teams with fewer points are Buffalo and Columbus, gotta keep this juggernaut together |

I included Read due to the trifecta of age, contract length/size and declining production. He's still an effective player, but with the cap albatrosses of Vinny, RJ & The Mac, they need to shed somewhere. |

Absolutely -- the defense gets a lot of the heat, but it's time to take a scalpel to the forwards, too |

Exactly -- time to take a really hard look at exactly who is keeping you from winning enough hockey games to be relevant
Because we can't blame Stevens, Laviolette and Berube anymore. Homer is gone like the wind
Time to look at the NHL roster very, very closely |

I agree; I was just leapfrogging off of your sarcasm by saying the team would actually improve without Read. |

I'm not cutting any of the core guys. Schenn, Read, White...middle six/bottom six guys. Replaceable. |

If the PK is where it is, and you are still getting outscored at ES before Ghost came along and still after, and Couturier is playing OK without you, then yes, Matt Read is not required to finish 27th or worse |

Absolutely. Kinda hard for anyone on the NHL roster, other than Giroux and Voracek, to make the case about how they absolutely cannot be traded
Everyone else are just NHL players who can be replaced and upgraded, if you are able to find better fits

I'd try to re-sign him. I didn't realize I'd missed him.
If he was willing to stay for a reasonable deal-say a couple years at around $2mm-I'd keep him. He hasn't been perfect, but he's been pretty solid. |

Isn't he still a RFA? Can't see any reason to not keep him with at least a 1 year deal |

Yeah, worst case he can be taken to arbitration or something. I figure they can keep him easily, though. |

Looks like Guns N Roses is back, or at least 3/5ths of it, for Coachella in 2016.
Apparently I'm the only one here who went to high school in the 1980's |
