Who's knocking Virtanen here?
- nucks_94

Not so much in today's thread but just reading the crap from the older ones. Its just ridiculous.

Wow... give the kid a bit of credit. He had over 100 points in less than 50 games for two seasons in a row. I don't care who his linemates were...
- nucks_94

All I am doing is stating the facts. Yes he scored more then a 100 points in back to back seasons. But for someone that you are claiming to be this great offensive threat to be sent back to the minors while the team seriously needs some sort of scoring speaks a lot of what the team thinks of him regardless of the depth. If he was that good then the team would make room. I just don't think he will pan out to be more then 10-15 goal guy in the eastern conference and in the western conference his style of play and size will make him rather useless.

That team seemed very unorganized or something. Dont know what it was but I had a feeling they werent going to do anything.

Their coach has his head up his ass more than torts. They have a top 10 prospect and a top 10 player in the league both wanting out. That alone says something...

I'm not on the Virtanen hate train here, I think hes a really promising prospect with an unique skillset and major upside. By process of needs/elimination was wondering how many would consider a Virtanen (likely plus another piece) for Drouin deal?

You have to give talent to get it and the Canucks cannot afford to give up center's such as McCann or Horvat. I like the skill upside of Drouin and think its more of a sure thing than the brawn of Virtanen. Could be a good deal or another Kassian-Hodgson

- WhiteLie

Drouin is a fragile little baby.

6 goals in 89 games is a little underwhelming for all his hype.
Keep Virtanen and hope Sven/Shinkaruk can deliver in the small, quick and skilled category.

I wouldn't call those " facts ". Whole lot more like opinion to me...did it ever occur to you he has been sent down for a poopty attitude....Ala what happened with kassian last year?

I think a ton of blame has to fall on the coach. I think when you have a team with tremendous individual talent, a dump-and-chase on Euro ice is a horrible idea.

Except he put up better numbers after Mackinnon left and his possession numbers are among tops in the league? He plays on a stacked and deep team, like Boston-Seguin, the asset is going to die there

EDIT: Also if half the Tampa forwards were playing up to their usual standards (even just Stamkos) they would be much further ahead of the Canucks in Goals-For. Not a prospects fault the coach has faith in what worked last year and wants them to figure out their slump

- WhiteLie

I think Hodgson is a good example of a cautionary tale of not trusting the hockey brain trust in their reasoning on player evaluation.
Maybe TBay staff see something we don't. Maybe Drouin needs more time to develop away from the NHL. Maybe he has a bad attitude and coaches don't want him around a fragile team.
I know I would be pissed off as a GM if I'm dealing with a bigger Stamkos issue and this little twerp hands me a trade request.

Definitely fragile so far. Could be tough luck or chronic, those are hard to predict.

6 goals is disappointing, but 32 points in his rookie season isnt terrible. He had about the same icetime that the Canuck rookies are getting now. If McCann or JV his 30 points given their amount of icetime, I think we would feel thats a good start to a career.

I am not saying Drouin would be better than JV in the long run, just wondering if people would be more interested in acquiring people with more natural offensive talent or try and shape the raw skills

Just curious if anyone who wants to trade for Drouin has watched him play more than 5 times, ever... or is it because he was a high draft pick?

Boy, Nashville would be a much better team if they can pry Ryan Johansen out of Columbus for I'm sure Seth Jones.

I dont see him regularly but from what I have I think his potential is warranted, flashes of really good things but lacks consistency and looks a little weak sometimes. Tampa is doing the right thing though in getting him lots of icetime against men

I think CBJ would feel pretty good about that too if they get Jones. Murray and Jones is a good young D-core

Murray has been a disappointment thus far to me, I expected more from him but he just can't stay healthy.

I think this is the most valid comment i've read on the Drouin fiasco. Ive watched him play a ton of games and for the most part he's invisible for 80-85% of the game - the rest of the time he shows some flashes of potential BUT At the end of day 6 goals in 90 games is f&*king pathetic for a 3rd overall - and those people claiming he has great possession numbers??? who f**king cares how often he has possession?? if he's not scoring and barely assisting on this so called "stacked team", then the writings on the wall.....

look at his draft class - theres some serious talented developing at a much higher/ normal/to be expected rate - even Duclair has put up better numbers and he was drafted 80th and plays with practically a similar team in NY

I'm happy with Virt - Drouin can stay in underwhelming-ville

Steve Yzerman is the worst GM ever, can't make a selection to save his life, Drouin and Connolly are busts!!!!

I thought Beatle Johns comment on Drouin was the best. It is probably nowhere close to the truth but it was funny

No... he is a knob.

I was so tired of defending him when he was here.

He was always a self-promoting knob who got away with filthy play because he once scored 40 and there was always a worse player on the team to take the focus away from him.

Bye bye you perpetual 12 - 15 goal scorer, 30 point man.
