My feelings about trading for a guy like Rychel or Drouin .
In past years there was an attraction to go after disgruntled first round picks because our farm team was bare. Now we have similar players in out system that are not disgruntled , so there is no need to go after them.
If a high end Dman becomes available or elite forward then you can look at the costs |

I get what you're saying, the team can afford to be more selective now going forward. It just might be worthwhile to take a few chances when the price is lower than before these players are established.
Drouin I think is a good example of one you consider what the price is. He is intriguing as he is not far removed from his draft and many experts still peg him with high potential (a higher ceiling than any Canuck prospect in the last decade). You think of his age (and what happened to Seguin) and weigh the price to get him. That all being said, you know the assets you have and there is definitely risk associated with making these deals. |

As I said before I am not too high on him nor am I against him.
I have red flags with him. I don't know if they are correct or I am overthinking . I also think he will be available in a couple of years where we don't have to give up anything for him. |

There will be a lot of teams bidding so I think the price will be high.
I have seen him play more than five games , I have never been enamoured with him.
I am not saying there is something wrong with him, but his style never got me excited. |

Yup, I am happy with our prospects and the direction of the team. I wouldnt be opposed to getting him but I am not advocating it, just I think worthy of a discussion. He could be a superstar or the next Sam Gagner... |

Better to get him now and guarantee he is a Canuck. IF he gets traded and likes where he goes he may just resign there. What are your red flags? |

Yeah it is definitely water cooler topic.
I think in the next three years draft your top centre , your top LW and your top two Dman and we will be good. . I am talking top 7 picks though. I think if we are drafting 15 th it will take a lot longer |

Who do you realistically want the canucks to add to the team? - SMBDragon
Although I wouldn't mind RJ, I think a top 6 winger is a more realistic a target with Vrbata likely gone at the end of the season. I wouldn't be against Lucic or any other ufa as long as we don't get tied to too much term.
Buff is a head case, still wouldn't mind him here. I keep wondering what kind of player he could be if he ever found the weight room, trained a little harder. Some players find it later in their career and get a boost from it.

As per your Virtanen + for Drouin.
I don't think the Canucks are in a position to move any young players or draft picks. While drouin is a high end prospect and IMO will still likely be a good NHLer, this team can't afford to move prospects regardless of their perceived lack of development.
I have been pretty vocal in disagreeing with selecting Virtanen at 6 but at the end of the day this team needs physicality as much as it needs scoring.
I think it would be a different case if we had other players in the system with his physical tools, but we don't other than possibly Stewart who is and has never been a legit prospect. |

None of them are top 5 picks. I'm pretty sure Drouin is on 29 GM's wishlist and Yzerman will wait for some fat return.
Edit: Trading Virt for him would be a mistake IMO though |

Fat and Lazy?! 6'3 220 doesn't sound too fat to me. You give Torts too much credit
He did have 120 in 164 games over the past two seasons, 26 in 37 this year despite Torts. |

Well, that's fair. IMO guys don't go 3rd overall for nothing, especially in a draft where a #1 D is on the board and you take a skilled winger instead. |

If I was trading for one of the State of Florida's third over all bust I would take the other one. |
