I don't see him as a bust at all. He's just a defensive d-man and doesn't get points. Like Hjarmalsson, I would love to have a young guy with that much shut-down upside. - neem55
I just personally wouldn't take a shutdown dman 3rd overall, they can be had later. |

I'm kinda hoping it takes him out of the game so we can watch Higgins #tankwithhank. |

Gunbrandson was 3rd overall in 2010, as I mentioned in the first place - neem55
I don't see how he's a bust. He's just a defensive Dman on that team. He does have a great shot and turns 24 this month. |

Fair enough. Barrett Jackman is another example of that move, I thought he was a great pick for St.Louis although he went later in the first round. |

You need them, but third overall is a stretch. |

This is why Canucks fans have such a bad Rep. You guys are jumping all over Virtanen for playing a weak 5 games under a mismanaged team. Yes he was undisciplined, yes he didn't put up the numbers everyone had hoped, but did ANYONE from team Canada put up numbers anyone had hoped? Canada's top point scorer had 6 points? Virtanen stock at an all time low after 5 games? You need to give your head a shake and stop reading the Province's BS paper by Botchford. He had a bad tournament, he was undisciplined, but he was one of the few players that played whistle to whistle and skated hard. Its ridiculous to see some of these comments. - Codes1087
I agree 100% with these comments....
people these days tend not to actually watch games but look at highlights and believe all the BS comments in newspapers which are geared completely for sales. They are in the business of stirring poop up. I take great exception to this as these POS writers dont care who they hurt. Think of JV....19 yrs old, impressionable not yet far removed from mommy and daddys protection getting published front page blame for the team in his OWN HOMETOWN where hes sure to see it. DO the writers care about him? No.....they care about their own....getting a story. These guys are POS.
I also agree that ity is unfair to blame JV, the team did not perform well. And from what I saw the only blame should go to coaches and on blackwell. I saw him let by some real stinkers, pretty regularly. When the whole team sucks it comes from above. But everyone likes to blame players for some stupid reason. I think those people do not really understaND the game at all. Maybe the rules but not the rest. |

I'll admit I haven't really watched many Wild games since the first month of the year but from the replays ive seen he's got a great shot, decent hands and a nose for the net. The problem is he's tiny, like maybe the shortest dman in the league. IDK, Ryan Ellis is the only I can think of who might be shorter. And if there's one position you dont want a short player is a top 4 D. If he was a 5th Dman and PP specialist, I would happily take him. To use him in a greater capacity than that and I'd want to see more before I decide.
That being said, if they wanted to take Jensen and Biega/Weber/Bart/Sbisa then i'm totally cool with that. - Max.Betts

Ah, lol
I thought he was talking about third overall lightning busts. Alexandr Svitov is pretty much the definition of a 3rd overall bust.
But yes Florida has Gundbranson who was also stated 3rd overall. I wouldn't call him a busy yet. .....screw it they are busts. |

Why does anyone have to be blamed, can't the other teams be better than us? the idea that we always need to blame someone is stupid. |

He's not a bust. I said about 2 weeks ago I liked him and wouldn't mind if they made a move for him if he was available.
More than a few posters called him a pylon. I was being sarcastic. |

Ya I agree. My comment about blackwell was more that for some reason no one blamed him. But yet he really stunk.
Blame the canuck though. |

I think they had three, so maybe that's why, Gudbranson, Bjugstad & Howden.
They had our first from the Ballard trade |
